True Confessions

August 9th, 2004 at 9:32 pm by Preston Taylor Holmes

It’s time for True Confessions with Preston Taylor Holmes. No, this isn’t an “adult” blog, so you won’t get the good confessions. This one is political.

In the 2000 Republican Primary, I voted for Alan Keyes. Yes, President Junior won the state, but my conscience was clean. I voted for the most conservative – and in my opinion – best candidate for the job.

So, it was with some measure of elation that I learned this weekend of his acceptance of the Illinois Republican Party’s recruitment to take on Prince Obama in the Senate race this fall.

Today, Keyes hit the ground running, stating that Obama’s position on abortion parallels the “slaveholder’s position”.

“I would still be picking cotton if the country’s moral principles had not been shaped by the Declaration of Independence,” Keyes said. He said Obama “has broken and rejected those principles– he has taken the slaveholder’s position.”

The remarks underscore the uniqueness of this Senate race in which both candidates, one an outspoken conservative and the other a favorite of party liberals, are black.

I knew that there would be fireworks, I just wasn’t prepared for them to start so soon. This is going to be a fun one to watch. But not as fun as watching Jeri Ryan get it on in an S&M club with strangers in leather.
