Isn’t it considered bad form to beat up a 13-year-old when you’re a grown-up?

Isn’t it even worse form if you bring in another grown-up to help hold the kid while you punch him in the stomach?

HundredPercenter has the whole story - Matt from Blogs for Bush and Jordan from Cheese and Crackers have shown a complete lack of class and massive immaturity, masked as concern over copyright infringement.

What kind of jackass posts this message on a 13-year-old kid’s blog?

You are a little bastard. You stole Margolis’ image from here.
“Then you emailed Glenn Reynolds and are getting all Matt’s traffic.”
“Absolutely despicable.”
Jordan Golson

Well, despicable is the right word, just the wrong application. I guess that rapid climb up the blogosphere ladder via tsunami videos went to his head.

Go read the whole story. It only gets worse from there.

Consequently, I’ve dropped any links to Blogs for Bush - why link to folks who encourage blogthuggery?

via Protein Wisdom

UPDATE:

Other commentary:

Slowplay - Courts now to determine the value of the instalanche.

Wuzzadem - Bullies for Bush.

The Asylum - Good going, guys.

Red State - unless you’re a lawyer or an active member of a mafia family, you don’t get to “represent” anyone.

Florida Cracker - No Wire Hangers!

Sanity’s Edge - I can’t help but think of a foul ball landing near these guys in world series game.

What Attitude Problem? - Some people just have too much to much time on their hands.

INDC Journal - 13 year-old kids can be pretty sneaky.

Overtaken by Events - this behavior from B4B and Cheese & Crackers seems more like something you’d see from some sphincter-clenching blogger like Oliver Willis

(the use of “sphincter-clenching” and a shot at Baghdad Blob all in same sentence - classic! - PTH)

Citizen Journalist Jeff Goldstein now has FREE AUSTIN! t-shirts available at his gift shop. All proceeds to to Jordon Golson’s Tsunami Video Bandwidth Relief fund. Not really, I made that part up.

The Musky Tiger - Have you no shame?

Digger’s Realm - Says Free Austin!

In the Bullpen - Pick on someone your own size.

UPDATE 2:

Jordan has dropped by and apologized (see comments below) and requests that we don’t hold Matt (Blogs for Bush) accountable for his (Jordan’s) comments.

Really, the entire issue was my doing. Matt mentioned to me that his image got instalanched at another site. I had been in contact with Austin before over other things including the Tsunami videos. I overreacted. Again, I apologize.

I have to take him at his word. However, I still say buy a Free Austin T-shirt!

Jordan’s message is on his blog here and he forwarded it to Austin, his mom and Matt. I appreciate the apology and hereby retract the insults flung at Jordan here. Hopefully this will be the last insta-brawl for a while, unless we all need something to blog about during those slow news days.

UPDATE 3:

Funniest take on the whole sordid affair is at The Unpopulist.

FINAL UPDATE:

Final update, I completely neglected to link to Austin’s blog. It’s here. Hopefully he’ll get back to blogging soon. There is a message board if you feel like sending a message of support or joining in on the Jordan/BFB/Political Teen lynch mob.

REALLY FINAL UPDATE:

HundredPercenter and the Unpopulist have some final words on the matter. Case closed. We can all go back to attacking the Old Media now.

  1. I “read B4B a lot, scanning stuff that interests me. I have to reconsider now after reading that. Nothing like having a Holier then Though attitude. Kind of reminds me of the Mainstream media A$$es and a lot of moonbats that B4B rags on when they get pissed.

    comment by marble — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 11:24 am

  2. This Jordan guy can lick my balls. Blogs for what…a whole 2 weeks and all the sudden he’s the moral authority on blogging?

    comment by Digger — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 11:33 am

  3. That is pretty prick-errific. B4B already has a large following, and even if there was a problem, seriously, the young blogger is 13. We want young interest in politics.

I mean, if those guys have half a brain, what’s wrong with a simple email to the poor guy explaining things rationally? You’re absolutely right, Preston. I’m taking my B4B blogroll off my site.

    comment by SixHertz — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 11:54 am

  4. It’s good when shit like this happens, in my opinion, so you can really see what kind of people are behind which blogs. Matt from B4B still had a chance to make things right with the kid’s mother, but still hid behind Jordan’s skirt.

The good thing is that both of these guys showed their asses, so that those of us with half a brain can avoid them. Talk about taking yourself way too seriously. I guess, as a CITIZEN JOURNALIST and COPYRIGHT POLICE SQUAD AGENT like Golson, the fate of the blogosphere depends on you.

Digger, as soon as they’re done with your balls they can start on mine.

comment by Preston Taylor Holmes — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:01 pm

  5. They’ll be awhile, everyone knows I’ve got the biggest balls of them all!

    comment by Digger — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:04 pm

  6. I wonder if that cheese and crackers punk owned the copyright to all of those videos he had posted. If not he needs to shut the fuck up before someone from Sri Lanka calls him a bastard for getting all of their traffic.

    comment by Digger — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:06 pm

  7. If I ran into that Jordon guy on the street, I would kick his ass in a New York City minute. The kid is 13, he might be politically savvy, but you can’t expect him to consider things like copyrights and stuff when he’s just trying to share knowledge. Golson handled it badly, and hopefully he gets blacklisted right out of the blogosphere for it.

    comment by Hector Vex — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:11 pm

  8. Unfreaking believable.

    comment by Jeremy — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:14 pm

  9. Digger, I am impressed by your enormous sack. Now pipe down about it!

But seriously, do you think that if a Sri Lankan called Golson a bastard that that would have been the first time? Hell, I’ve been called a bastard countless times. But not for attacking a 13-year old kid - just for being a regular old garden-variety bastard.

And Hector, this is no time for ass-whoopin’. Just some verbal tonguelashing. Save the ass whoopin’ for peoiple who really need a good ass whoopin’, you know, like everyone at the Dim-O-Crack Underground.

comment by Preston Taylor Holmes — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:21 pm

  10. Damn you Preston. Musky?

Now…is it possible to continuously trackback to Cheese and Crackers all day…without actually linking to them? At all. Would that be wrong? Childish?

    comment by Jeremy — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:45 pm

  11. Aww crap, I’m a bastard, I infringed on the Six Meat Buffet trademark by using it in my hyperlink to your site.

Someone quick, call Jordan Golson on my ass!

    comment by Digger — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:46 pm

  12. IIRC, the kid put up credit for the image rather quickly. I saw the Instapundit link fairly quickly, and he link to B4B was up there already.

Whatever… people need to stop glamorizing traffic spikes. It has been shown that a random instalanche doesn’t really have any lasting effect. I can personally attest to that. I had a site (a side project) that got linked. It got 9,000 visitors that day, and 20,000 over a 7 day period. That was in the end of November. Now, it gets only 8,000 visits a month, and has faded into obscurity.

Oh… and the kid is 13… get over it.

    comment by Mark J — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 12:49 pm

  13. What a prick this Jordan guy is. I can’t even believe someone would say the things he has, at least according to the post on Hundred Percenter, to a freaking 13 year old kid. Heh. All this from a guy who got “famous” for providing links to tsunami videos yet hosts none. Double heh.

    comment by Chad Evans — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 1:05 pm

  14. I sincerely apologize for the “bastard” comment. It was out of line and unnecessary. I was hot under the collar and I should have waited until I had calmed down to post on the topic.

Matt and B4B should not be dragged through the muck for that comment, that was my comment, not his.

Really, the entire issue was my doing. Matt mentioned to me that his image got instalanched at another site. I had been in contact with Austin before over other things including the Tsunami videos. I overreacted. Again, I apologize.

    comment by Jordan Golson — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 2:21 pm

  15. Let me give you a non-blog-junky opinion. Jordan acts like there are copyright laws and on the internet, similar to print. While this may be true, it is also true only when caught. Even then, the rules and laws of the internet are vastly different than print because of the anonymity. The blog craze is so new, that there are no hard and fast rules of etiquite. Cut the kid some slack and get a real publishing job.

    comment by Homely — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 3:36 pm

  16. Poor kid. Learning his lesson in childishness from people twice his age or more. Come on…

But, of course, funny nonetheless that everyone took it and ran!

    comment by katie — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 4:05 pm

  17. I don’t give a rat’s ass if that schoolyard bully Jordan apologized–he only apologized for calling the kid a “bastard.” He didn’t apologize for being a DICK and sticking his nose in where it didn’t belong in the first place. Fucking crybaby. “Waaaaah, he’s getting all the Instapundit traffic, waaah!”
I think this calls for a new phrase to be coined, a la LGF’s “Fisking”.

“Wow, look at (insert blogger name here) pulling a Jordan.”

    comment by Beth — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 5:40 pm

  18. Do you know how many times I’ve been kicked out of the Democrappy Underground just for pointing out what clueless morons they are?

Preston - you’re right. Kicking ass is never the answer. Plus, staying out of jail is key to me staying employed.

Jordan - I know you don’t need more advice on how you handled that situation but you should have thought about what you were saying before you said it. The magic of cyberspace is that you can consider your words before you type them. Trust me, I’ve learned that lesson the hard way. (Which is just like your way.)

    comment by Hector Vex — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 5:40 pm

  19. I like “pulling a Jordan”, Beth. I can see it catching on like wildfire. Kind of like calling Oliver Willis “Baghdad Blob.”

comment by Preston Taylor Holmes — Thursday, February 3, 2005 @ 9:55 pm

  20. Beth, you have such a way with words my lady. While making the same point I think just about everyone is either thinking or said, you just sound so diplomatic. Ever think about running for office?
