Quickies
March 15th, 2005 at 4:28 pm by Preston Taylor HolmesA few quick items as I listen to an illegally downloaded MP3 of Sonic Youth’s “Teenage Riot”.
First, the best show on television returns with a new season tonight. Yeah, I’m talking about The Shield on FX. I’m disappointed that Glenn Close has joined the cast, but I’m going to try to give her a chance.
Next, I haven’t had much time for blogging or blogbrowsing, but here are few good nuggets to go check out if you haven’t already:
- Short Family Online – Anheuser Busch appreciates the troops – a good reason for you to drink Bud products. I can’t do it myself, because I prefer beer with actual flavor, but still a good story about a good corporate citizen.
- Riehl World View – Moments in History.
- Beautiful Atrocities – Jeff comes out with his rabid endorsement for President Hillary in 2008.
- Ace – Doonesbury “almost as funny as Cathi or Marmaduke…” I don’t know why but that line made me bust out laughing.
- Jawa Hut – Seems like Giuliana the pretend hostage got her way and Italy is now turning tail and running from Iraq. Limp-wristed EuroSocialist pussies.
Last but not least, we’ve got quite a few bloggers signed up for March Madness. You have until Thursday morning to get your picks in and join the “Six Meat Buffet” group. Bloggers already in include Eric, Hector, Annika, Chad, Lance, Rick and a few other folks. Get in while the gettin’s good.
UPDATE:
There are two things I completely missed today and yesterday.
First, yesterday was the Third Annual International Eat an Animal for PETA Day. As a meat-based blog, this is inexcusable, and I will not neglect this important day again. You may be glad to know that I enjoyed a big-ass cheeseburger Sunday night, Chicken with Broccoli on Monday, and some sausage/pepperoni pizza for lunch today, so I continue to eat animals for PETA on an daily basis.
Last but not least, My Pet Jawa’s turnstile counter hit 1 million today. Go over and shower Rusty with congratulations! I anticipate Six Meat Buffet will hit 1 million visitors somewhere around October of 2012. But that’s just a guess.

Can I come play over here for awhile? They won’t shut up about the A word over at my place.

My DVD recorder has basically one purpose: recording The Shield. Nice that I’ll finally be getting some use out of it again. Let’s just hope they can keep up the momentum from the first three seasons.

That’s the problem with the A word, Jeff. People on both sides generally froth at the mouth. That’s why I try to avoid it.

I too looked forward to the Shield on FX. Glenn Close did a good job last night, but we will see how she pans out. Later.

I thought she was pretty good, but there was too much of her. It almost seemed like a suckup job.
It was interesting to see how much has changed since last season. They’re definitely not playing it safe.

Everytime I watch the Shield, I can’t help but think, “what would the Commish do?”
“Not that” is usually the answer.
And Glenn Close doesn’t scare me.
