For What Purpose?
August 5th, 2005 at 12:30 pm by Preston Taylor HolmesLawsuit forces the Pentagon to release more photos of flag-draped coffins.
The decision was called a victory for open government by the National Security Archive, a nongovernmental research group here that helped the litigation. “We forced the Pentagon to admit that release of these images was not a mistake but was in fact required by law,” said Thomas Blanton, director of the archive, which posted the images on its Web site yesterday. As a result, he said the parties to the suit agreed July 28 to dismiss the case.
I guess my only question is what kind of purpose does this serve? Another group of bedwetters gets to show off more of our dead soldiers? I guess that’s how the demonstrate how much they really do support the troops. Really.
UPDATE:
In contrast, this is a prime example of how to respectfully pay tribute to the fallen.

What purpose would it serve _not_ to show the photos? Which way do you think the First Amendment leans?

Thine Eyes Have Seen
I wonder what the six meats are on the Six Meat Buffet. Anyway, I digress. Preston blogs there about the lawsuit that is forcing the Pentagon to release photos of flag-draped coffins of those killed in the War on Terror….

Gee, Thomas, I don’t think it leans into invasions of privacy. But, who gives a fuck about their families in the pursuit of the cause right?
Tell you what, Thomas, tit for tat. When you croak, tell your family to let me know. I’ll go you one better, I’ll post pictures of your rotting, fetid corpse on my blog.
And if they resist, why, I may just have to sue.

[...] As Preston notes, what purpose does this serve? Outside of providing more fodder for extreme anti-war leftists looking to glorify in the deaths of our soldiers along with every little failure in Iraq? [...]

Jackass. It serves the purpose of, oh, letting the citizens of this country know that we are at war. Since the administration certainly isn’t telling us.

I often check out Army Time’s Frontline Photos:
http://www.armytimes.com/channel.php?GQID=show
There are many military funerals reported there, with lots of flag-draped coffins. It’s all available to the press.
Of course for the news media to report those stories they would have to go to the heartland, which they would hate. And they would see our dead honored and respected by patriotic citizens, which would probably just bewilder them…

Bullshit artists….
From the WaPo (thanks to Six Meat Buffet) In response to a lawsuit, the Pentagon has released a few dozen new and uncensored images of flag-draped coffins of U.S. troops and agreed to process “as expeditiously as possible” future…

Ladies and gentlemen (and Vinnie), if you’re at all unclear on what a mental midget is, just revel in the 1st-grade-level cluelessness of Bedwetting Leftist’s comment above. Textbook.

You really took it easy on the head NiTwit over there, Preston.
The same people who cry “censorship” over not getting those pictures are the same ones who have no problem engaging it in it themselves.
I “flipped the script” in the vernacular of Head Honchess Schooly-B and wondered aloud if the same logic could be applied to the abortion debate. The need for pictures that is.
Looking back at the thread shows how that question got answered.

Well, smantix, if you look at her emotionally overwrought post, I was worried that there may be something physiological or hormonal going on, so I didn’t want to push her over the edge.
And your suggestion of abortion photos is far too logical for the libs at NiT. They engage in selective application of censorship as you well know.
August 8th, 2005 at 12:10 pm
Yeah, cause if you get emotionally overwrought about thousands of soldier deaths you MUST be hormonal.
OH, MY OVARIES ARE MAKING ME CRY.

Probably from grabbing them so much.

Britney wouldn’t be nearly as much fun if she wasn’t the stereotypical Karinna Gore clone. “Women, grab your ovaries.” It doesn’t get any better than that.
This does remind of me of one of the only funny moments from American Dad – “Son, feelings are what women have. They come from their ovaries.”
August 8th, 2005 at 6:57 pm
There is a big difference between ovaries and uteruses. Not that either of you would know much about women’s reproductive parts.

Was that supposed to be an insult?

I don’t live in Nashville, I’ve never lived in Nashville, and I’ve never visited Nashville.
But NiT is just begging for a Vinnie Fisking Special Edition.
