Public Service Announcement

August 31st, 2005 at 10:58 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

If you’re in the Knoxville area, it would be advisable to go ahead and fill up your vehicle. I have received word from a reliable source that things will be getting worse before they get better – particularly for the East Tennessee area – in regards to gas prices and supplies.

UPDATE:

Driving home tonight (10:30 ET), average gas price going through west Knoxville was $3.09. Mrs. Holmes paid $2.59 just this morning. You can’t convince me that no gouging is going on.

FYI, the local racetrack up the street has a news crew there. Gas locally went from $2.69 to $3.01 at some spots.

In Nashtown, I’ve started seeing the price sa high as 2.85 so far since this morning. Up from $2.48 this weekend.

    Gasoline Time Warp

Today was the day the consumer price for gasoline here caught up with the increase in market price for crude. I bought gas for $2.29* Sunday at BJ’s on Woodruff Road in Greenville. GasBuddy.com showed gas prices as low as…

At the Shell station at Lovell Rd. and I-40, I just filled up with diesel in my 84 Benz at $2.759/gal.

There was a receipt from less than an hour ago from an earlier customer on this same pump with regular unleaded at $2.99/gal. When I pulled up and reached for the diesel, it was $3.05/gal.

When I hung the nozzle back up, regular unleaded was $3.09.

  8. Mad Dog Vinnie Says:

I’m driving my F-150 Triton V-8 no matter what. I mean, for chrissakes, if I’m willing to spend 35 bucks for a carton of smokes, I sure as hell ain’t gonna bitch about 3 buck a gallon gasoline.

And before you make a snide remark, think about the trivial bullshit you’re willing to pay for that you don’t bitch about. Like worthless Cable TV.

  9. Preston Taylor Holmes Says:

How did you know I had cable, Vinnie? And why haven’t I heard of you before, Backassward? Great blog name.

  10. Mad Dog Vinnie Says:

It’s not gouging, per se. Prices jumped up on the basis of speculation. Rather than waiting for the price of wholesale gas to actually go up, the price is being raised on the assumption that it will go up regardless.

But it’s neither here not there. I know it will be hard, but you may have to give up your subscription to at least one internets pr0n site to pay for gas.

  11. Stacy Says:

Must be local. Our gas prices here outside of Dallas have only gone up 10 cents in the last two days. I expect them to go up more, but for now, we haven’t experienced a gigantic spike.
