Who is This “God” You Speak Of?
September 3rd, 2005 at 4:05 pm by Preston Taylor Holmes(via Bob Krumm)
A boatload of Nashville-area leftists are up in (figurative, of course) arms over the announcement by Thomas Nelson Publishers that they’re donating 100,000 Bibles to Katrina victims (as well as matching all monetary employee contributions up to $50,000).
You can always count on the head NiTwit at Nashville is Talking to point out something this abhorrent to the left. Instead of attacking Nelson’s generosity herself, she knows her sycophantic throng of lefty commenters will do the dirty work for her, “Be sure to read the comments from readers about his decision to donate Bibles,” she adds. And some of those open-minded, compassionate commenters?
“What unbelievable foolishness..”
S-town Mike:
“My God. The man has no shame.
People are starving and dying of thirst and the best he can do is Bibles for people who live in the Bible belt.
They wouldn’t even be able to use them for kindling because they don’t need fires to keep warm in the New Orleans heat.”
John Mora:
“I for one, applaud them. You gotta have something to burn to stay warm. ^^;”
(okay, the last one was kind of funny… – ed.)
They weren’t all riding the short bus, though.
“It seems to me that we are having trouble with the concept of “Doing well while doing good”. Is it a good thing that a publisher of bibles offers to provide a source of non-material comfort to people in need of material as well as non-material comfort? I think so. Will it help their public image to be see as magnanimous? Probably. Is that wrong? I do not think so.
I live in Houston, less than 2 miles from the Astrodome. Thursday I volunteered there and helped process some of the thousands of newly homeless. They were all in a daze as if they had come from a war zone. Many had t-shirts with bible phrases on them because that’s what they were wearing when the disaster struck. Who is to say that these people don’t need spiritual help? Sure they need food and shelter and that is being provided. But if this Hyatt fellow has bibles then bring ‘em on down. The people that need them will love him. The ones that don’t will not hate him for it.”
Took the words right out of my mouth. Thanks for your work, wordjunky.
And too all the open-minded, compassionate, liberal Christophobes who are so offended by this offer, I know it probably galls you that many of these people who need rescuing are quite spiritual – and even worse – Christian. Perhaps you can find it in your shriveled little hearts to live up to your claim of being the compassionate, open-minded liberals you claim to be. More than likely, you’ll just keep attacking those nasty Christians and Jooooos like you always do.
Would it help if Nelson sent 100,000 korans instead?
UPDATE:
This post has been submitted to open trackback festivals at Beth’s place, basil’s blog and Wizbang. They axed for it.

Yes, I found this post via the Wizbang! ‘Carnival of the Trackbacks’… The last time I participated in one of these things, it was on Sunday (typically, when blog traffic is down), and it was to an ‘open post’ at the Mudville Gazette. That can yield a good amount of traffic (perhaps even more that Kevin’s). Thanks for posting this information.

The Good,Bad, and Butt Ugly of Hurricane Katrina
A Nashville bible publisher donates bibles and cash to Katrina relief.
For the Stop the ACLU Weekend Trackback Party I’m linking to some of the extremes of this week’s reporting.

God, those leftards make me sick.
Funny thing though, “The Other” Beth has posted that Bibles are the number one requested item at the shelters, after food and water (of course).
Fucking moron moonbats.

Hurricane evacuees hungry – for the Word
Fox News reported that the number one requested item, excepting food and water, by hurricane evacuees is the Bible. A no-doubt reflexive action for a nation with a Christian heritage. Yep, it really is Jesus Land (thank God). H/T Yeah, Right, Whatever & S

Yes, Thomas Nelson is promoting themselves by donating Bibles. As are a number of companies – Wal Mart, Nextel Sprint, Culligan, Qwest…the list goes on.
