Blog Housekeeping
September 14th, 2005 at 9:10 am by Preston Taylor HolmesA few blog-housekeeping notes.
First, I’ve finally dumped Blogrolling for good. It was getting really old having the site continuously fail to load due to their frequent malfunctioning. The only downside to that is that I had to re-do my blogrolls manually, which sucked, because alphabetical order is really hard. Oh, and another downside is that I can’t see which blogs are freshly updated, which really isn’t a downside since I use Bloglines so much now.
So, if you’ve got me on your blogroll and I don’t have you, let me know and I’ll get that fixed.
Also, I’ve dumped Google ads yet again. I got tired of seeing ads for meat products and various types of sausage seasonings – nobody is going to click on that crap. It was pointless and the ads stopped amusing me months ago.
In R.I.P. news, Cranky’s Blog Machine (in the left sidebar) will be gone by the end of this month. I’d like to thank Cranky for putting the thing together in the first place – lots of work – little reward – you know, kind of like blogging. Stay gold, Cranky.
Now back to your regularly-scheduled programming.
…We now join Laverne and Shirley already in progress. Today, the role of Carmine Raguso will be played by a 60-watt light bulb.

Preston, you should roll me. You’ve been on mine for a month or so probably. I would greatly appreciate it.
http://www.longren.org is my URL.

I quit using blogrolling when I moved to WordPress. I didn’t care much about the updated thing, just nice to have my blogroll served from the same host. No delays.
And I just got rid of my Google Ads too, but hesitantly. They were bringing in decent cash (enouch to pay for a year’s worth of hosting each month, so in addition to paying for the blog they were also paying for my dvd’s/books/gifts for my girlfriend). Not bad. Yesterday, though, I signed a contract giving exclusive ad rights to another company, so down they came.
Oddly enough, today I just got a call from another company hoping to buy ad rights to my site. Had to turn them down, but between that call and the amount I was making with Google Ads I’m wondering if I made the right decision in signing this contract.
Oh well. Live and learn I guess.

Hi Preston. You’ve been on my blogroll for a while now. I’d love to be listed on your Bloglines list.

Now if you could just get rid of the fuckin’ javascript errors that pop up on every goddamn page on your site.
Also if you weren’t such a lazy guy you would have seen that you can specify which section of a page for google to use for targeting ads (see here)

Damn Digger, why don’t I just stretch out on the ground so that you can get a better angle to beat me with a crowbar.
And yes, I’m lazy, you wanna fight about it? Nah, I don’t feel like it.

well, if you stretched out on the ground, you’d have to bend over so far. perhaps on your hands and knees? and bats have far greater reach. that’s what you need to do.
