I believe this to be a tacit policy in the UK, but there have been some calls to improve the policing response to “honour killings” and forced marriages. These are a serious problem that until recently has largely been ignored.

Not the UK police have a very enlightened policy toward spousal abuse anyway…

Sounds like it’s gotten worse since your first post as well – many more cities were in flames last night.

And it is absolutely the immigrants’ responsibility to make efforts to assimilate, just as it should be here in the states. Of course, we’re just doing everything in English and Spanish so that we don’t offend our illegals. Otherwise, they’d stop cutting our lawns and building new houses.

Is it true that in domestic violence cases in the UK that the police have to be culturally sensitive to the fact that Muslims are cleared to beat their wives? And that in order to keep from breaking the family apart that they must consult a local imam?

I disagree with you on one score:

They didn’t.

1. They don’t have open borders. They often dump their unwanted migrants on the UK. Many of these people rioting are either 2nd/3rd generation from an older wave of migrants from former French posessions- some may be new-arrival kin/illegal immigrant kin to that older wave.

2. They don’t have a hyper-apologetic multi-cultural approach – that’s us in the UK! The French have a clear idea of what it is to be French and pretty high expectations that immigrants will conform to that idea. Remember the headscarf ban?

But they have failed to assimilate the ex-colonial North African, Muslim migrants. These people are segregated into squalorous suburbs with poor links to central Paris. They are completely and I believe deliberately left out of French society so fail to integrate. Of course, the immigrants have responsibility themselves to take on French values and culture (not something I would normally advocate but seems like a good idea there), which they have utterly failed to do.
