Palestinians Don’t Want Peace? Who’da Thunk It?
January 26th, 2006 at 9:09 am by CrankyWell the people have spoken and democratically elected a terrorist party to govern Palestine.
Mushir al-Masri, a Hamas candidate who won election in the northern Gaza Strip, sent mixed signals about its plans. He said peace talks and recognition of Israel are “not on our agenda” but the group is ready for a partnership – presumably with Abbas.
You know, deep down I used to believe that the average person, the one who doesn’t show up for televized protests, just wants to live his lives in peace and be left alone. I’m not so sure now.
UPDATE: ViVi’s comment reminded by of this classic by Larry Miller:
Okay, so the Adjacent Jew-Haters want their own country. Oops, just one more thing. No, they don’t. They could’ve had their own country any time in the last thirty years, especially two years ago at Camp David. But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and, worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living. That’s no fun. No, they want what all the other Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel. They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course–that’s where the real fun is–but mostly they want Israel.

[...] The surprise would have been if they had voted to have a free and open democracy that allows descent and discussion. The only thing more amazing then a Palestinian nation lead by peace loving people would be if the Palestinians admitted that Israel had the right to exist. In other words NO CHANCE!!! Do not hear me saying that Israel is always right, or anything like that, Israel has and is their own set of problems and issues, but the Palestinian and peace will never go hand in hand and the existence of the state of Israel was not the beginning of this trend or pattern. It’s Western self-delusion that considered the goals of the Palestinians to be the same as the goals of “ordinary” people everywhere.
The Palestinian population today is a Darwinian product of years and years of violence and formidable exclusion of anyone and anything which didn’t adapt.
They, like the Iranians, are now along for the ride into a firestorm of death and destruction which is only a few years away. I’m not convinced that this deservedly benighted collection of savages will deserve anything less than total war, which in the end will damage us but eliminate them. It’s in the cards. Cry havoc, there’s no going back, and the world, in the end, will be a better place.

Peace? NAAAAH! It’s so boring. Here’s a chuckle, Al Jazeera says this about Hamas:
Hamas’s corruption-free reputation and extensive charity network mean its popularity is rising among Palestinians.

I’m not so sure that the indoctrination of pali children from the moment of birth into the mustkilljews/Israeldoesnotexist mindest has helped their cause. They’ll get what they have coming soon enough. This just makes it easier.

This might not be as bad as people fear. Hamas may lead Palestinians into all out war, with the result that Rhod predicts.
Or, when Hamas fails after a couple of years to create jobs, take garbage off the streets, run basic utilites, and fulfill other boring non-jihad-related functions of government, they won’t even be able to blame the Jews.
They’ll of course try, but that’s a given.

I’m moving to Ireland. They only use rubber bullets. The problem with Hamas failing, which we humans know will happen,is what is left of the people of Palestine will blame the world. Other than taking them out, I don’t see much of a chance of ever finding peace. Heh, and my grandmother thought Barry Goldwater would set the world a blaze. All kidding a side, this freaks me out thinking about what our children have to look forward to if this insanity is not stopped. Bet your sweet azz there is much a buzz in the Pentagon these days. Computer simulations already in effect. God Bless America and
God Bless Democracy!

Hamas’ win actually simplifies and clarifies certain issues. The first, of course, is that the possibility of a sovereign state isn’t first on a Pali’s check list, but they have the status if not the state(yet). It will be legally easier to kill them.
Second, the unofficial polarization in the immediate region will solidify before long. Neither Egypt nor Lebanon can tolerate a terrorist “state” in Gaza or The West Bank. Hamas is a danger; this will force everyone to choose sides in public. A good thing.

I’ve never been particularly impressed with Hamas’ new employee orientations. Sure, they’ve got the “punch a clock” and “let’s hit a popular restaurant” thing down but most of them don’t wind up coming back from lunch.
They weren’t elected to govern. They were elected for war.

Lo and Behold
Hamas has won the Palestinian elections today, and that’s definitely going to be upsetting to more than a few people. After all, this is a terrorist group. But, this is also a terrorist group on the current list of designated terrorist groups maintai…

Rhod–I totally agree. It makes decision making for the US oh so easy.

Well, we can always count on good ‘ol Jimmy Carter to set us straight!
“My hope is that as Hamas assumes a major role in the next government, whatever that might be, it will take a position on international standards of responsibility.”
Ah, he loves like he’s never been burned before!

Dsmith:
Good point. Sometime soon we can expect the buffoon Carter to show up with a burnoose on his head, a black mask and a demolition vest made of Rosalyn’s hair curlers to show solidarity with the killers in the ME.

Smantix stated it well.
As a long time peace activist, I have never heard of “Palestinians for Peace.” There is a reason for that.

Naturally, Hamas has put their nose to the grindstone and started tackling the tough issues that Abu Mazen had been ignoring. Like how many blue stripes are on the Israeli flag and demanding that they remove them because they’ve got some unsane conspiracy theory as to what they represent.
