Once again, you have proved to be a source of endless enjoyment and hilarity. You rule.
Nice work on the graphic! How did you do that? -I’m not really asking, just telling you how cool it is, of course. You have some of the most excellent stuff out there, and deserve some wider recognition. I’m sure it will happen soon, if not already.

Terrific. I remember when William Koenstler, was asked years ago about what part he would play in a place like Cuba. He answered that he wanted to “work on a collective farm”.
Koenstler was farming stuff in his nose and ears and eyebrows, which is as close as he ever got to manual labor. Same for the ACLU types.

Thank y’all for the kind words. Your words have all been recorded in an NSA wiretap.

I strongly appreciate neo-conservative image-busting of the ACLU, like here and Discover the Networks, etc.
The tricky truth includes that many ACLU members don’t identify as communists and, if pressed, will protest that of course they’re not. (The ones I’ve met are that way.) As the USSR fades into historical memory, many ACLU-enthusiasts will view the hammer-and-sickle characterization as absurd.
I think it boils down to a good, hard political fight over What constitutes a “civil liberties”? What are the differences between “civil liberties” in theory (sure, freedom’s worth fighting for)and in practice (e.g., when known groups want to kill Americans).

Point well taken. Thank you. The Communist reference alludes to the origins of the ACLU, which found itself very much in the camp of the anti-Americans of a different era – the Communists.
Their definition of “civil liberties” seems so narrowly focused and their defenses so abolute and that one can see a clear agenda emerging.
“What are the differences between “civil liberties†in theory (sure, freedom’s worth fighting for)and in practice (e.g., when known groups want to kill Americans).”
There seems to be no “search and seizure” situation that is satisfactory to their lawyers. The pursuit of the “separation of church and state” goes far beyond any restriction envisioned by the authors of the Bill of Rights.
Are they for strict interpretation (theoretical, as you put it) or rather more agenda driven? Your thoughts?

A new invention by Cranky exposes the American Civil Liberties Union. Move the magnifying glass above the heads of the panelists to read their thoughts, and over the poster on the dais to see their sacred icon. Fortunately, it does not see through clo…

They don’t need to identify themselves as Communists. You just use the magnifying glass. That thingy. Up there.

Hi Cranky and Kevin,
I suspect the ACLU leadership is more “agenda driven” than some portions of its better-meaning membership. (The former are die-hards, the latter are trying to feel like they’re helping the “good fight.”) No reason to ease up on showing the organization for what it is, though.
