HEY YOU GUYS!
February 7th, 2006 at 12:44 pm by Preston Taylor Holmes
I just heard the good news that The Electric Company was getting released on DVD today.
If you’re an old-ass bastard like myself, you probably watched it as a kid. In fact, I dug the Electric Company a hell of a lot more than Sesame Street. There was Spidey, Letterman (faster than a rolling-O), the Silent E, Easy Reader, Spell Binder and all the other little shorts they used to do.
I don’t know why I’m telling you people.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see what Preston Jr. and Sally think of the show. They’ll probably hate it, but I’m going to make them watch every stinking episode.

You’re not pathetic. I saw the headline in my RSS reader and ‘The Electric Company’ was the first thing that popped into my mind.
Cool show. Wish it was still around.

Yeah! The Electric Company! I loved that show as a kid. Tune in next time when Spiderman says… $%&#? I always found it amusing that Spidey was a mime. Be sure and let me know when they release “Zoom!” or “Wonderama”. I’m almost finished with season 3 of “H.R. Puff’N Stuff”.

If “an old-ass bastard” like Preston remembers The Electric Company, what’s the expression for someone who remembers Winky Dink? You kids go play now.

[...] Preston Taylor Holmes has a incredible piece of info on his blog today – THE ELECTRIC COMPANY IS OUT OF DVD TODAY!! For all you young whipper snappers Elec Co. was the cool answer to Sesame St when I was a rug rat. It is out on DVD and everyone, regardless of your age and your child situation, should give it a go. Great stuff. Preston’s post here. Preston includes a link to Amazon to buy it, I would say buy it ANYWHERE OTHER THEN BEST BUY!!! [...]

I’m apparently an old-ass bastard like you. I remember when the show started, I also remember the first episode of Sesame Street. BTW, Electric Company was what the losers watched, the cool toddlers watched Sesame Street. Mr. Rogers just scared me.
Im partial to Schoolhouse Rock and started indoctrinating my kids before they could speak. La la Conjunction Junction What’s Your Function la la
Speakin of HR PufNstuf, what about Sigmund and the Sea Monster?

6MB, you tapped a pop culture vein today.
Electric Company rocked. It was cooler than Sesame Street. And it’s where I first saw of Morgan Freeman and, I think, Rita Moreno.
I’ve got so many memories. Where to start:
1) “I’d like to make a toast” (and the guy picks up a piece of toast)….;
2) the animated spot, “I’d like _____ and a sweet roll” “Sorry, sir, we don’t have any sweet rolls.” “OK, I’d like ____ and a sweet roll” (over and over till the waitress runs away screaming)
3) another animated spot, “Elbow Room, elbow room, got to got to get us some elbow room” (w/ the Louisiana Purchase and moon landings)
4) another animated spot about how a bill moves through Congress and becomes a law.

Not sure why our TB did not show up, but anyway, great stuff, and great info. We are fully behind the Elec Co and think everyone should get it on DVD. All we ask is do not get it a BEST BUY!!! As the big blue box is pure evil.

I’m from the Howdy Doody and Winky Dink era myself. I currently pay the electric company. Does that count?

I’m not old nor a bastard; therefore, I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, but I do know you should be giving your kids the Schoolhouse Rocks! DVDs as well.

Not to mention that it had new songs from the brilliant Tom Lehrer – “Silent E” and “L-Y.”

That sure takes me back, Preston. It also reminded me of another “classic”, the movie Free to Be You and Me that we watched in elementary school every year.
I went to check it out on Amazon. OH MY GOD! Harry Belafonte? Alan Alda?
It is absolutely amazing that I grew up to be the way I am today! Hippie parents, hippie school system. I’d be outraged if they showed this piece of crap to my kids today!
Thanks Preston! Thanks for the memories!

Gee, thanks Preston, ever since this post, I have a potpourri of kiddy tunes playing incessantly in my head—most unrelated to Electric Company. The one that WILL NOT go away is “Three is a Magic Number.”

Vivi – De La Soul’s version of “3 is a Magic Number” is one of my favorites.
And D, do you remember the afterschool-special-style show “You Can Do It, Duffy Moon!”
