The Hunt For Red November
March 26th, 2006 at 6:45 pm by SmantixMatt Margolis is running a poll that is showing dismal negatives and weak positives for every conventional contender who has expressed interest in running in ‘08.
I know it’s a small sample. I know it’s still early. But I’m just going to toss this out there.
Talk amongst yourselves. After 6 years of mush-mouth, we could use a strong candidate who can reach Reagan Democrats and verbally articulate the conservative message.

So far the situation seems hopeless. I almost wish Pat Buchanan was back in the Repulican party, almost.

Not just articulate the conservative message, but actually, you know, implement it.
If you’re looking for fiscal responsibility in ‘08, both parties are in the toilet.

Pitchfork’s done more to hurt conservatism in the last 12 years than to help it. From his “I’ll show you a right wing tyrant” remark during the ‘92 primaries, to his bolting for the Reform Party which sounded it’s death knell, combined with his funding of sites like antiwar.com and he will never, ever, ever garner more than 4% of the Right’s vote. He may get a higher percentage in the primaries but he is thoroughly unelectable.
Thompson, on the other hand, is immaculate. He guided Roberts to Chief Justice. Has a sound history and voting record. Name recognition. Can carry the South. Quick-witted and an excellent communicator.
People may be nodding their heads towards darkhorses like George Allen but I don’t believe he’s going anywhere and Giuliani is too liberal. And that’s that.

I for one am looking for that “Fiscal responsibility.” Not a one on the list is evident to me. Giuliani might give it a shot based on his response to 9/11 popularity. I base a good deal on the kind of shoes a person wears and Giulani just don’t cut it……….heh
