Letters From a Nut

May 9th, 2006 at 8:27 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, sit-com star, Iranian nut job and neo-Nazi, has sent President Junior a letter. The letter represents the first communication between an Iranian leader and the US in 27 years.

The press has described it as a great step towards diplomacy. They’re hopeful that the US will finally stand down from their imperialist aggression, which has forced Iran to take steps to defend itself with nuclear weapons.

NEW YORK (AP) – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice dismissed a letter that Iran’s president sent to President Bush on Monday, saying the first direct communication from an Iranian leader in 27 years does not help resolve the standoff over Tehran’s disputed nuclear program.

Iran’s top nuclear negotiator called the surprise letter a new “diplomatic opening” between the two countries, but Rice said it was not.

“This letter is not the place that one would find an opening to engage on the nuclear issue or anything of the sort,” the top U.S. diplomat said in an interview with The Associated Press. “It isn’t addressing the issues that we’re dealing with in a concrete way.”

Rice said the letter from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was 17 or 18 pages long and covered history, philosophy and religion.

The Old Media has noted the complexity and depth of the letter, implying that, perhaps, it’s a little over the President’s head. Luckily, our crack staff was able to get a copy of the letter itself, which demonstrates quite the opposite.

Only the US can provide the incentives for Iran to agree to a peaceful solution. If President Bush would offer to guarantee their security & provide a pathway for economic relations, then Iran would have a carrot big enough to entice them to cooperate with the international community.

Further, if America would open diplomatic relations with Iran, then the US would have an unprecedented opportunity to use soft power. Instead of making them do what we want, we could help them want to do what we want. This letter provides an opportunity to negotiations – I hope Bush takes it.

If I was Junior, I’d get an order of protection against this madman, Mahmoud.

This is the classic dysfunctional relationship. Mahmoud said some things he’s not proud of, like Israel must be wiped off the map, and all that denying the holocaust. Now he’s trying to sweet talk and get back in Bush’s good graces.

Course, we all know, he’ll be good for a couple of months, and then he’ll start drinking again, and start threatening our friends, like Israel and all the Jews.

Check NO! Junior! You don’t need him! There’s better out there! How about Tony? I mean, he’s always been such a good friend. How could you quit Tony?

It’s altogether unclear as to: 1) Why “only the U.S.” can provide such an incentive; and 2) Why it should be necessary for the U.S. or anyone else to provide any geater incentives than that: If you (Iran) stop trying to acquire or build nuclear weapons (or other WMDs), we (U.S., et.al.) will stop pressuring you about it; then, maybe we can have a useful dialog about what we can do for you, or help you do for yourselves if you will stop aiding and abetting Islamofascist terrorism. Added incentive: If you don’t stop doing what you’re doing, it’s going to reach the point where we have to get really nasty about it – trust us on this, you don’t want that to happen.

That should be all the “incentives” that are required.

    Thanks, Rogue Jew.

And J.S., it’s semi-pointless to engage a EUnuch in debate – when their only position is the default: pacifist, anti-Semitic, cave-in-to-all-turd-world-dictators-that-come-along-as-long-as-it-damages-the-great-satan.

At least JA made his point without the usual Bushitler rhetoric, and for that he gets points.

  9. Chad Evans Says:

JATaylor, did you actually read what was in the letter? Where are these parts of the letter that supposedly “[provide] an opportunity to negotiations?” Finally, what part of the entire concept of the 12th Imam do you not understand? Do you honestly believe that only if President Bush were to check ‘yes’ that Ahmadinejad would forget about all the trips to Qom, Iran to drop notes into the well where the 12th Imam lives, forget that he feels it’s his duty to start to pave the path, forget his entire belief system that there the end is near, etc.?

This isn’t an issue of security guarantees or economic relations. It doesn’t really matter what sanctions are placed upon Iran. Iran’s entire nuclear energy program is based upon religion and no amount of “soft power” will persuade a man who believes a divine light shone upon him at the UN that he should turn his religious beliefs into dust.

  10. JATaylor Says:

JS – The US is not the only country that can negotiate but it has the biggest carrots: economic relations and guarantee security. If the US does go to war in Iran, Iraq and the rest of the ME will melt down too…if the international community really wants to prevent Iran from getting nukes, then we have to offer real incentives.

    PTH – thanks!

Chad – even if the letter said what PTH has on his post, the letter is hugely important because its the first communication in 20+ years…it sets a precedent for real dialogue – whether it will be successful is another thing, but the US should use all its carrots as well as all its sticks – and it hasn’t yet.
