Back in Business, But For How Long?

May 23rd, 2006 at 8:44 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

As you can see, we’ve returned after yesterday’s technical snafu.

As my webhost has yet to provide any explanation (and given their history, I don’t expect any) for yesterday’s shutting down of my database, it’s a mystery that may never be solved. I did, however, ban a few IP addresses of some people that looked like they were up to no good. I’d like to say definitively that this was a cyber attack, but it could have just as easily been utter incompetence on the part my current webhost. I’d say the chances are 30/30 on that.

I would like to thank Lissa Kay, Anonymous Drivel, Vinnie, Sean, Smantix, Ed & Scherzo for sending a variety of helpful info on .htaccess and other moral support.

The only question now is do I move to yet another host – I think that would make it about an even dozen so far – or do I do something different altogether. Oh well.

We are finally among the worthy. Our very own DoS attack!

    Glad your back

    I love your blog!

I don’t know just what your needs are, but EasyCGI has been alright if you need/want Windows hosting with MSSQL & MySQL. They’re not exactly lightening fast with the ticket response, but I’ve really only needed to submit tickets for things like adding a certificate and third party COM objects. Their shared hosting is priced right, and the server response always seems pretty snappy.
