Farewell, Sweet Jihadis

June 13th, 2006 at 8:44 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

(via The Jawa)

It seems that over time, some conservative stalwarts are going a little wobbly in the knees due to the Old Media’s constant drumbeat of gitmo-abu-ghraib-haditha-gitmo-abu-ghraib-haditha. It’s the left’s favorite hippie drum circle and God only knows why anyone would want to oil up with patchouli and jump in, but some have.

Is it really such an offense that many of us were mildly amused at the weekend suicide of three jihadi warriors at Gitmo? Apparently so.

There are many who dismiss the suicides of the three detainees at Guantanamo with a kind of “good riddance” wave of the hand, a casual shrug of the shoulders denoting indifference to the fate of those who, if given half a chance, would kill us all.

But it is by no means clear that those detainees and the others being held there pose that kind of threat. And the reason we aren’t sure – sure enough to have a clear conscience as we lock them away for the rest of their lives – is because of the unconscionable foot dragging by the Administration on determining exactly what rights the prisoners will be granted before US courts.

The confusion between WAR and CRIMINAL JUSTICE continues. As Vinnie deftly points out, this is a war – and not a run-of-the-mill-regular-old-play-by-the-rules war. This is a war where our enemy hides behind their own women and children, then sits back and guffaws as al-Reuters attacks our military for hitting their targets.

But still, some feel that we should treat them like the street thug that takes the old lady’s purse and takes off down the block.

Much as we loathe the men who have sworn to kill us all, we simply must come to grips with the idea that if we aren’t able to kill them on the battlefield, they must be granted some of the rights guaranteed by international law and our own constitution.

At least we agree on one thing – we should kill them on the battlefield. Unfortunately, that would keep us from gathering valuable intel, but I’m okay with planting them in the ground where they stand, if that will shut the Old Media up about it.

And what of the protection of these jihadis under our constitution? In the words of John McEnroe, you cannot be serious. Dragging these holy warriors through our criminal justice system, instead of using military tribunals, would be another nail in the coffin of our already overstretched “justice” system. Notwithstanding the fact that these are islamic holy warriors bent on our destruction and not (in most cases) U.S. citizens.

Go ahead and read the entire post so you’ll know I’m not taking anything out of context here.

When three jihadis ice themselves, the world is a far better place, no matter how much it “stains” American justice. Likewise, when an entire houseful of Palestinians is blown up while they’re building a bomb, the world is a better place. When a suicide bomber blows himself up a little too early on his way to an Oklahoma football game, the world is a better place.

Instead of feelin’ all down in the mouth, we should say THANK YOU to these three brave jihadis for making the world a better place. Perhaps our gratitude will encourage some of their brothers-in-arms to engage in the same type of protest. If that stains someone’s definition of American justice, so be it.

Amen to that. And you’re right–the constant “antiwar” chanting seems to have sunken into too many heads.

It’s not a coincidence that some of the same self-anointed Republicati who are wanting to mewl about some of these Guantanotards saving the taxpayers a few dollars are the same ones who are telling us that the Immigration Bill was a good idea and that Harriet Miers would be a terrific (nay the greatest) Supreme Court Justice of all time.

Whose conscience can be sold for a couple of blog ads? Apparently more than you’d think.

There may soon come a time when there is a very public breaking of rank as “The Leaders” of the right side of the ’sphere find no one is following them.

Some of the trackbacks to the post you and I linked to are quite telling. If you look hard enough.

Where IS Cranky with our Insufferable Pricks logo?

Thanks for asking Vinnie. I am *this far* from “going postal” at my office. No offense intended of course. I have my high-powered rifle and water tower picked out.

Now I just need just one more person to ask me to drop everything to deal with his/her crisis…

  5. Vinnie Says:

Cranky, would you mind dropping that crappy work stuff and doing our IP thing, we’re entering crisis mode here.

I will humbly beg forgiveness if I have interpreted this wrongly, but, in all military actions prior, doesn’t a combatant who is taken, NOT IN THE UNIFORM OF AN OPPOSING FORCE, qualify as a ’spy’?

And, aren’t spies shot after interrogation a nd a short, military tribunal?

    So? Shoot them as spies!

    Winne the Pooh dumped…

TURKEY’S public television TRT, controlled by the Is-lamist-rooted government, has barred the popular Walt Disney cartoon Winnie the Pooh from air because it has a piglet as one of its main heroes, the Turkish press reported today.
