The Endorsements That No Sane Candidate Wants
July 19th, 2006 at 11:18 am by Preston Taylor Holmes(subtitle: Your Preston Taylor Holmes Knox County Voter Guide™)
Early voting started here last Friday. I haven’t voted yet. Mrs. Holmes and I will do our usual thing – grab the kids, head to the polling place, hold our noses and pull the lever on the one-armed-bandit. Here are my endorsements.
U.S. Senate GOP Primary
This one is easy. Ed Bryant.
Bryant is advertising himself as the “true conservative,” and in this race, that’s the way it is. Hilleary seems like an honorable man, but he’s a weak candidate for many reasons – not the least of which is his status as inside-the-beltway lobbyist. Corker doesn’t do jack squat for me.
If Ed Bryant had won the GOP primary against now-embarrassing-senator Lamar Alexander, by now we would at least have one U.S. Senator that I could respect. Plus, Bryant may be the only hope against Harold Ford, Jr., who will be a very formidable candidate.
Hobbsy puts out some excellent reasons to support Ed as well.
More here.
U.S. House – District 2
Ralph McGill. John Duncan is out of touch and has been a key opponent of the war on terror. McGill gets it on the war on terror, illegal immigration and has a background in energy from Oak Ridge National Labs. If the GOP had any stones at all, they would try to lead the way on new energy research and reform, and McGill has the background to do just that.
TN State House District 14
I’m writing in myself since something about Parkey Strader rubs me the wrong way. Since he has no opposition, what’s the point?
My two regrets this year are that I can’t vote in the 7th State Senate district to oppose Tim Burchett and that I can’t vote in the 21st State Senate district to support Bob Krumm.
Burchett has been a statewide GOP embarrassment, working on the behalf of socialists to redistribute wealth and crossing party lines to keep a senile old fool in the Lt. Governor’s position and state Democrats in power. If Burchett had any shame, he would have already resigned, but “shame” is one of those things of which politicians are usually in short supply.
Bob Krumm has been a friend of this blog for a long time, and despite the fact that we have no class, Krumm oozes it. If you’re in his 21st District (Nashville) you need to check out Krumm. Sure, Douglas Henry has been a fairly unoffensive semi-conservative Democrat, but Krumm is one of the true conservative up-and-comers that the GOP needs to rebuild its image in Tennessee and nationwide. Even if you don’t live in Krumm’s district, throw him some dough to help the cause.

Happy to be of service, Rob. Not that anyone gives half a fish fart what I say anyway, especially since I’ve joined the Insufferable Pricks.

“Not that anyone gives half a fish fart what I say anyway”
Nonsense. I consider your endorsements a handy dandy guide of what to vote against.

I was fortunate enough to see Ed Bryant speak last night and he’s by far the most sensible of the three. In fact, all three were invited, but Bryant was the only one who showed.
Corker sent a representative, who was fine, but certainly couldn’t answer the questions I wanted to ask.
It’s Bryant for me! I even got my picture taken with him so I could remember the day he captured my lost political soul.

PTH,
This candidate is honored by your endorsement. And I think the question of my sanity was probably settled the day I announced.
