Taste in sportscasting is a matter of preference. Highlights are so ubiquitous now, that I watch Sportscenter for it's entertainment value.

I like the funny commercials, the Home Run calls and the Bermanisms. I acknowledge that some don't. Olbermann was entertaining...at least to me and my friends.

But I don't see a lot of argument about Olbermann's current show. Everyone pretty much agrees...the guy is a moron. I guess you can mask idiocy in the sports world...

"I don’t mind humor like Chris Berman adds, but most of the ESPN guys, including Olberman, just are as cute and clever as they think they are."

Er, make that "aren't as cute..."

I have to disagree with Billy, Olbermann was a lousy sports anchorman on ESPN. His juvenile smirks after every story and his attempt to show his "above it all" attitude turned me off. He is doing the same act in the news as he did on ESPN.

He helped usher in the ESPN era of the sports anchors trying to make themselves stars instead of just reporting sports stories, such as guys like Kilborn, etc. Now, every single homer or dunk has to have a stupid catch phrase attached to it.

When he starts wearing a Paula Zahn mask and a micro-mini to boost his ratings, then he can finally do his own ads for Keith's Eve.

(for full disclosure, I also posted this at Ankle Biting Pundits)

Actually, Olbermann was an outstanding sports anchor. When I was in college back in ‘89-91 in Los Angeles, I enjoyed his Sunday wrapups and when he moved to ESPN and teamed with Dan Patrick, their Sportscenter broadcasts were legendary.

So much so that they wrote a VERY funny book about their experiences (The Big Show).

Olbermann was not “fired” from ESPN…he left for Fox Sports because they tripled his salary.

Having said that…

Olbermann is a train-wreck outside the sports world. This one-sided “feud”
with O’Reilly is pathetic. I watch O’Reilly frequently and listen to his radio show, I think I have heard him mention Olbermann maybe TWICE.

Meanwhile, Olbermann is back with Dan Patrick on ESPN radio…where even Dan teases him about his obsession with O’Reilly. Olbermann is constantly reminding listeners about his show on MSNBC…no doubt in an effort to add to his dozens and dozens of viewers…
