Painting With A More Narrow Brush
September 22nd, 2006 at 8:58 am by CrankyIslamic terrorism needs to be smashed unmercifully. I don’t think there is a 6MB reader that disagrees with that. Screaming guy (here) is the perfect embodiment of all that is wrong with Islam.
That said, we must acknowledge that there are many Muslims here in the United States who have nothing to do with the madness which seems to be engulfing the Middle East.
Here is a great case in point:
Local Muslims, led by the Central Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, plan to announce their campaign this afternoon at the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Petersburg.
We have family friends who moved here from Egypt. They both have earned PhDs in the sciences and live in a McMansion. Our children are very close.
They are my reminder in my most furious moments that even though I support the war on Islamic terror, I cannot paint the entire faith with the same brush.
Oops, I left something out. What would a Cranky post be without a requisite slam against Loonie Lefties?
Unquestioning support of the “brown people” by our immature friends on the Left does no service to moderate Muslims.
Many Muslims do not speak against the violence because they fear falling victim to it themselves. I wonder if on a campus somewhere, a Muslim is not speaking up against violence because a white “Support the Insurgency” idiot is showing is solidarity with the terrorists.

So true….The Pope actually nailed the difference. It’s the deliberate fear fostered by Islamism…not the religion of Islam.
Stik is an Episcopatheist and is in Benedicts corner….hell, I’m ready to hold his spit bucket.

“It’s the deliberate fear fostered by Islamism…not the religion of Islam.”
Whoa…
Islam, the religion, was initially spread by fear and violence. And that continues today.
Did the entire country of Indonesia (for example) become Muslim because the population there saw the light and love of Allah?
Cranky has hit this dead on (and no, I am not kissing up). Not all Muslims…in fact the vast, vast majority of them…are violent in nature.
However, the teachings of their “religion” are in fact violent. Pick up a Koran…pick up a Hadith…heck, take a look at a 7th grade history textbook in an Islamic country.
Now pick up a New Testament and look for where Jesus encouraged the spreading of faith through violence (and don’t give me Matt. 10:34 because I can easily defend that).
If in fact Muslims feel their “religion” is being “hijacked”, they MUST stand up and be heard if their faith is real. Those who are not willing to are practicing their “religion” in fear…the mechanism they were subjected to when they took it.
Kudos to the Florida Muslims who had the courage to risk a fatwa…

While I applaud the efforts of the Muslims in Florida, they are the minority. I ask again, where is the peace movement in their community? It is strong is the Christian and Buddhist and Jewish faiths and with Atheists. Where is the major Muslim peace movement?
I’m off to my Synagogue for Rosh Hashanah where I can’t bring my big purse even though we’re all still going to be searched and hoping we don’t get blown up.
But Happy New Year!

Those muslims in Florida who are raising money to repair the churches that were burned by their bretheren are just scamming the suckers once again. Any money they raise will go straight to fund the jihad, and idiot Christians will probably donate most of it. Jesus H., Americans are gullible.

Ahem.
Hate to burst you kids’ bubble, but I happen to know of Ahmed Bedei, the CAIR spokesman in question. One thing the article doesn’t mention is that the money is going to repair churches in “Palestine.” There are probably churches in palestine, I grant you, but I also wonder who damaged them.
This is a PR scam by CAIR, nothing less. This is (my) the same town that brought you Sami Al-Arian.
These guys make Sinn Fein blush.

OK. My bad, the article still says who damaged them.
They still make Sinn Fein blush.
It’s CAIR, people. CAIR!
Also, je suis un idiot.
