The (Hopefully) Last Kerry Post

November 2nd, 2006 at 10:01 am by Cranky

Until he emerges again sometime in ’07.

This Lileks quote sums it up.

In any case, I don’t have any Outrage over the matter because I don’t particularly care what Sen. Kerry says, and don’t see him as a relevant actor in modern politics.

I understand why great amounts of hay is being thrashed over the matter, this being an election season. I understand how some are using the gaffe to draw attention to a greater point re: the hard left’s attitudes towards the military, but if that wasn’t actually the point Kerry was making then I can’t jump on board and affirm the greater point.

Yes, Kerry has a deep-seated anti-military stance that he can somehow reconcile with his proud service in Vietnam in a manner that only a politician can. And yes, he has never apologized for the “Winter Soldier” lies and slander.

He justly deserves all the derision we can give him, especially if it keeps him from becoming the Commander-in-Chief of our protectors.

However, there are two reasons why this should drop now; it does distract from the bigger issues. We do need to see Iraq ended well. I think it might be an Er0tic liberal fantasy to see a helicopter loading Americans off the roof of the top of a building in Baghdad’s Green Zone. Call it Bush’s war, declare defeat and bring on a new glorious era of American Malaise.

The other reason is that it could backfire if it’s not dropped now. In the grand scheme, this gaffe is trivial. If Republicans continue to milk it, it will appear petty.

I can’t blame anybody from wanting to pile on. I mean, when the clown is taunting you from his perch in the dunk-tank, its hard to resist. And as the Media tries to close ranks around Kerry, it becomes even more fun.

I’d like to see more pressure put on Democrats to outline a strategy for security that involves no Patriot Act, an immigration plan that involves pandering to minorities and an anti-terrorism platform that meets with the approval of the Global Community.

UPDATE:
Oh yes, and somehow toads should fit into our message.

Yeah… We want to know, Cranky… Where do we fit in to the Donks message?!

    Sincerely,

  2. Preston Taylor Holmes Says:

Even more importantly, why do you hate minorities?

  3. geezer Says:

Why, oh why, did the words “Er0tic liberal fantasy” make me flashback to that Kirk/Spock thing on Ace of Spades?! Anybody know a good lawyer? I want some f’ng money right now! (Thank you, Denis Leary.)

PTH, old media seems to agree with you this Kerry thing needs to go away quickly. I’m confident you both have something different in mind. We want grownups in charge (however flawed,) and maybe even a grownup debate with grownup ideas. Meantime, they twitch, fiddle, piss and moan like some little kids in church. “When is this thing gonna end so we can go home, Mommy?”

Please, God, let them go home 8 Nov 06. You kids go out and play while Mommy and Daddy have some “grownup time.”
