Looks like my hometown has finally made it big. Electronic voting machine “smart cards” have gone missing from a Memphis-area polling location.

Voter fraud in Memphis? No freakin’ way.

This is a new twist on the fine Memphis tradition of robbery - usually it’s stereos, televisions, social security checks, DVD players. Who would have ever suspected that smart cards would fall prey to sticky fingers.

It truly is no big deal, because nobody trusts the numbers that come out of Shelby County anyway. What’s a couple of extra votes? Just ask the Ford Family. They’ve been the primary beneficiaries of Memphis voting shenanigans for decades.

Just another election in the Bluff City.

1. Sadly, I think this would be easier to do than most people think. My husband and I went to early voting yesterday, and the 70+-year old poll mistresses wandering around really weren’t paying much attention to what folks were doing with the cards after they voted. Half the time she was at the table to collect and the other half, she was off somewhere else - would have been very easy for all of us to walk off with the cards.

4. Of course the cards are smart, Jane, they batted their puppy dog eyes at a few dopes and ended up in nice warm homes rather than the cold, sterile evironment of the local polling place. Where, of course, after being pawed by the unwashed masses, they would be put to sleep and incinerated.

6. Jane, you are a true wordsmith. The race cards in Memphis will never get a clue - the poverty pimps down there have made their living off of the race cards for decades and it shows no sign of letting up.
