Fat, Dirty and Stupid Is No Way to Go Through Life
November 16th, 2006 at 10:58 pm by annikaThis is the full ABSCAM video, starring Jack “I never took that money” Murtha. It’s fifty-three minutes and forty seconds long, but I was fascinated by the entire thing.
6MB readers are pretty well informed, but on the off chance that you need some background, here’s the setup. Back in the waning days of the Carter administration, while Tip O’Neill was House Speaker, there was a junior congressman named John Murtha. He’s the dude that’s sitting on the couch in the video, the one with the elevated opinion of himself.
The FBI created a sting operation in which they approached 31 congressmen and told them a couple of rich Saudi princes needed help getting into the United States. The Saudi princes were fictitious, but Murtha and the other congressmen didn’t know that. All they knew was that the offering price was $50,000 per prince.
You may read elsewhere that Murtha was clean, because he didn’t take the money. You won’t find a perfect smoking gun soundbite in this video. The dude was careful. But after listening to the totality of the shit that comes out of his mouth during this haggling session, there was no doubt in my mind: that asshole’s dirty.

Y’know, Preston, now that you bring this up, I run into a helluva lot of retired Marines on a daily basis (hats, license plates, cars plastered with stickers and that ‘just ask me’ look.) Let me start asking them what they think about “Over-the-horizon” Jack and I’ll report back. Not promising anything scientific, mind you, but this could be fun.

Ah, yes good ole’ ABSCAM Murtha, Nazi Pisslosi’s would be broom to sweep the house clean. It’s actually a shame that he didn’t win HML. I mean really, think of all the fun were gonna miss out on:cry:

This one was an annika post, geeze.
Alcee Hastings is worse though. The professor had this one pegged – Donkeys playing racial politics with the war on terrorism.
We’re watching the Highlanderization of the Democrats. Schumer rebuking Kerry. Carville calling Dean out. The New York Times deflating Pelosi. All to the benefit of Hillary.
There have been 3 major fractures in the Democratic Party. Kerry with his wife’s infinite resources. Dean running the DNC after Terry MacAuliffe left. And Clinton’s personal warchest that she’s swung around like so much cock. Attacking the Dean loyal Pelosi, emasculating Kerry is all signs of what’s to come.

.. man, they’re all dirty…. it is the nature of the game…. but Murtha is a POS regardless…. Semper Fi, indeed….

Good catch, Smantix. As Coach was talking about blackouts on “Cheers” so long ago, “Nice break in the day, isn’t it, Sam?”
My apologies, Annika.
Murtha would’ve been fun, but I’d still rather see a fair fight. Bring forth the best the left and right can come up with over the next two years. If the one side can act like grownups, and the other side get a bit more grownup-ish, who knows how much better things could be? If not, the clearer the choices become.

“6MB readers are pretty well informed”
Hmm, I hate to sound dumb right after such glowing praise, but… Jack who? What is he, like a politician or something? If so, I bet he’s a Republican. President elect Sandy Pelosi said that they were all corrupt. This tape pretty much proves it.

Kevin,
Actually this Murtha guy is a US MARINE. Couldn’t you tell? I mean, how stupid would you have to be to get caught on tape like this?

Good point J. Kerry! We all know military people are stupid, or else why would the protect our country? Say, your name sounds familiar. Were you on “In Living Color”?

No, but my wife is a “fly girl”. Or at least she always seems to have a lot of flies around her.
Must be that ketchup residue…

Well gee .. why would an egotistical SOB like JM, with so much influence, meet with a lowlife in a Washington townhouse? Questionable, at best, and pretty stupid. Why wouldn’t he insist that the meeting take place in his office?
And I hope he held his language in check when he, Tip and the Prez were at the game. I don’t mind cussin’ now and then but certainly not in a formal setting, it’s just unprofessional, childish, and offensive to the other “professionals” in the room.
