Maya Angelou: “Molly Ivins A Spearchucker”
February 3rd, 2007 at 12:02 pm by SmantixMuch like Maya Angelou’s career, Molly Ivins is dead. Who will carry her spear?
Up to the walls of Jericho
She marched with a spear in her hand
Go blow them ram horns she cried
For the battle is in my hand
So says Mother Maya (yes you may). Fitting that America’s former Poet Laureate has to crib rhymage to honor a plagiarist. And what do you expect from anyone who includes in their WaPo eulogy that:
“Years ago there was a fundraising gala for People for the American Way in New York, and Molly Ivins was keynote speaker.”
Lament the loss of your rabid bitch who, and I think Maya would agree with me on this one, proudly displayed a bone of hatred through her nose for everyone who was not a commie.
Outside of the fever swamps, few knew or cared who Ivins was. When anyone bemoans the poisonous atmosphere in American politics there is little doubt that the air is less acrid now that Ivins is finally dead.
Hell, who knows how many angry people would be on the right today if the leftist media had not insulated venomous columnists like Ivins for decades?
Onward with your hagiographies though. The only poetic justice would have been if Ivins died in poverty at a boarding house because of the “folksy, homespun” cancer she inflicted on public discourse for almost four decades rather than succumbing to the one in her breast.
I’m sure that’s Shrub’s fault too.
