Dr. Seuss’ Birthday
March 2nd, 2007 at 1:39 pm by CrankyLinda Sog tips us off that it is Dr. Theodore Geisel’s birthday today.
It is not a well known fact that Geisel opposed American isolationism in the years preceding WWII.
Many of today’s “peace activists” are so myopic that they believe themselves to be on the very edge of changing the world. In reality they are merely echos of the previous historical cycle.
Yet I often hear that, “well that was different. Of course I would have opposed Hitler.” This time is wrong because the Bush regime is pushing a phony war or outside interests are manipulating us.
In 1941, American First Committee’s Founder, Charles Lindbergh, claimed that America was being pushed into war against Hitler by “the British, the Jewish and the Roosevelt administration.” Lindbergh claimed that the Jews were powerful because of their “large ownership and influence in our motion pictures, our press, our radio, and our government.”
Same as it ever was.
Anyway, here is my favorite part of “Horton Hears The Who.”

The week Dr. Seuss died, Saturday Night Live had this tribute to him:

OK, you might not appreciate the orator, but I thought it was one of SNL’s best moments ever and a great tribute to Dr. Seuss.
When I graduated from college, one of my closest friends from high school gave me this:

You know what? I thought he was extremely cool to come onto the show and deal in some self-deprecating humor.
That was the famous episode where they played that game show, “The Question is Moot”
BTW, that video? A cameraphone in front of the TV. Don’t do that to me again. It offends my sensibilities.

Sorry Cranky…I searched for a better video. If you find one, please replace it…

How about this one from the War Department? Private Snafu, written by Teddy Geissel.

Cranky,
Just caught your “Who”…awesome.
The Who played last night in San Diego…I could not attend. I have never seen them live and fear I may have missed my last chance.
Anyway, I have that album cover on my wall here at home:
thanks Preston
BTW, there is something kind of creepy about this album cover…you Who buffs should be able to get it easily…

Dang Cranky, watching that video, all I could think of was… them Who boys had some BIG noses. Every one of them!

There are two deaf guys and two dead guys on it. The wonder of photography.

Actually I was waiting for Sharon to chime in…
I think the creepy part of that album was that the week it was released, Keith Moon OD’ed. And I remember as a teenager we all talked consiracy theories about drummers dying and their album covers…about how Keith Moon was “taken away”…and about John Bonham’s death wish.

I only thought of Pete as the big nose. And what is wrong with a big schnoz anyway?

Rhod, are you ripping on the poignancy of my favorite bands photo?
