Sure I’m Progressive, But This Is Business

March 7th, 2007 at 9:14 am by Cranky

From Agent Bedhead:

Bono’s investment company, Elevation Partners, bought much of Forbes last year and proceeded to strip workers of their hard-earned Forbes pensions.

An anonynmous Forbes employee writes:

It’s not really Bono as much as it’s Roger McNamee, the Silicon Valley guy who runs Elevation. But the two of them love to go around talking about their do-goodery progressive politics and helping the little guy and all that. So guess what they just did? Canceled the Forbes pension. Right before Christmas!

I like that the tipster isn’t a hypocrite.

Nobody is complaining because a) this is the kind of unbridled asshole capitalism we’re always praising in our pages; and b) we’re all pussies. Not sure how much money was in the Forbes pension fund but I sure think we employees need/deserve it a little more than Roger and Bono do.

Bono, like everyone else, shouldn’t be faulted for looking after his bottom line. However it echos of Gore’s “do as I say not as I do” carbon lifestyle.

Bono lost his “progressive” credentials a long time ago.

    Offshore Tax Status

    Here’s a little taste:

“This is somebody who’s exceptionally rich taking the opportunity to shift his tax burden to somebody else, but then asking governments around the world to spend that tax take in the way that he would like,” Murphy says.

U2′s move to the Netherlands is wrong, says Dick Molenaar, senior partner at All Arts Tax Advisers, a Rotterdam-based tax consulting firm for artists and musicians.
“Everybody needs to pay his fair share of taxation to the government, and therefore we have roads and education and everything,” he says.”

To liberals though, I’m SURE there is a good solid reason to excuse this away. Maybe Bono bought Tax Offsets? From his own company?

Heh… Bone-o, sounds like a gay porn flick to me.

  3. G. Newsom Says:

    Mr. Swamp Rabbit,

Have received your proposal for the upcoming feature film “Bone-O”…and I forwarded it on to some connections I have in the industry.

Let me know if you would be interested in a starring role. I can probably arrange for you to co-star with Mark Leno.

  4. Sharon Cobb Says:

There’s nothing wrong with Bono (or Al Gore) being very rich.
Bono has done more to help Africa that all of us combined.
    He pays plenty in taxes.
Lastly, I want to sleep with him, so leave him alone.

  5. Swamp Rabbit Says:

    Mr. G. Newsom,

I’m truly flattered that you have taken the balls, er, ball and ran with it regarding the film project but I must decline your offer to appear in said picture. However if I may suggest an alternative, you could strap one on Sharon and make her dream/fantasy cum, uh, come true.
