“Since when has a bomb helped a woman?” asked the idiotic Berkeley student in an anti-Iraq war protest.
This was four or so years ago and I cannot find the quote by Googling anymore. However, that glib I-got-it-all-figured-out quote has been seared, seared into my mind.
Some of our very own trolls have nothing to say except “sign up and don’t send me to your wars” as if the U.S. military would even have them.
That said, Mark Steyn shows peaceniks for the vacuous lot they are:
Meanwhile, the leftists don’t accept it because, while they’re fond of “causes,” they dislike those that require meaningful action: Ask Tibetans about how effective half a century of America’s “Free Tibet” campaign has been; or ask Darfuris, assuming you can find one still breathing, how the left’s latest fetishization is going from their perspective:
“On Sunday, April 29, Salt Lake Saves Darfur invites the greater Salt Lake community of compassion to join with us as we honor the fallen and suffering Darfuris in a day of films, discussion and dance with a Sudanese dance troupe.”
Ace asks something similar in an unrelated post regarding the ousting of the Taliban.
… how do 40,000 fewer infant deaths per year factor into the left’s “war never solved anything” and “war is bad for the health of puppies and flowers and other living things” slogans?
Short answer – it doesn’t. Just close your eyes and imagine that everything evil is done by “multinational corporations” and it all makes sense.

On Sunday, April 29, Salt Lake Saves Darfur invites the greater Salt Lake community of compassion to join with us as we honor the fallen and suffering Darfuris in a day of films, discussion and dance with a Sudanese dance troupe.”
Wow…how many lives did Salt Lake Saves Darfur save with the Sudanese Dance Troupe?
This kind of reminds me of a brief discussion I had with a liberal we all know and love. On her site, I pointed out who ridiculous it was for rockers (like Global Warming Princess Sheryl Crow) to hold a concert for Global Warming.
Especially when you consider the massive carbon footprint such a concert would leave:
*The electricity needed for lighting and sound
*The carbon emissions of 70,000 concert fans driving to the site
*The carbon emissions of all performers taking their private jets to the venue…then the trucks carrying all the equipment, etc…
The libs response? It was OK, because the concert was necessary to educate us.
Oh.
I’ll bet those Salt Lake Saves Darfur dancers really fired up enough citizenry to go over to Africa and save those Darfuris!

When you’re unable/unwilling to do something you can always “raise awareness”.
If this “liberal we know and love” is the one I’m thinking of, she is actually planning on doing something in Darfur.
I’m betting that a good chunk of Carbon Offset money is going to awareness raising activities. i.e. Lobbying and “educating”.
Meanwhile the same idiots who rightfully sneer at rich TV Evangelists are contorting themselves to defend Gore’s words vs. his decidedly un-eco-friendly lifestyle.

Yes Cranky, it was her. Of course we love her because she is one of those rare libs who walks the walk…

A dance troupe doesn’t just leave carbon footprints. They leave *real* footprints too.
Think about it. I haven’t.

Yeah…the comment is almost as stupid as the war-fetishists screaming out that “War Solved Hitler”. An serious student of History would tell you that British, French, and American arrogance and stupidity at the end of WWI is what caused Hitler.
Wars solve noting…they simply lay the groundwork for the next one. War begets war, violence begets violence in an unending circle of insanity.

Thanks for adding your insight, Tim. So in your cynical worldview, Hitler wouldn’t exist save for American, French and British arrogance? Regardless of greedy and short-sighted actors in political affairs, when a Hitler does arise, does that threat need to be addressed?
Darfur wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for what? Colonialism? Oil interests?
Regardless, when these things happen, do you fold your hands sagely and say that “war only begets war” as millions die?
Would a war which pushes the Sudanese army out of the southern region accomplish nothing?

Cranky, I think what Timmyfrom Raleigh means by “an serious student of history”, is any libtard who spends their life in university libraries finding justification to blame America for everything.
See, apparently Timmy doesn’t live in the real world…he lives in that “serious student” world where he can both brainwash and be brainwashed with liberal idiocy.
Yes…it was American arrogance that brought about Hitler…who of course begot Bush.
I hope you come back, Timmy…but methinks you are too busy seriously studying how “American arrogance” brought about global warming, Islamofacism and jock itch.
