Well, as usual, I’m late to this party, but I need to agree with Casca on this one.

Close the fucking borders first and last.

Once you do that, the next step is the last one you’ll need: Fine anyone who employs an illegal $10,000 for a first offense, $25,000 for a second offense, and $100,000 for a third one. For a fourth, the slammer.

Without the magic magnet, they all go home themselves, on their own nickel. In fact, it just reverses polarity and back they go across the Rio Grande.

Back in the Sixties, four of my relatives spent a few weeks in Mexico. A short while after their return, two of them tested positive for TB and had to get treatment. The problem today is there may be no treatments for drug-resistant strains. It’s an invasive situation on so many levels.

As a high school basketball coach, I am required to get frequent TB tests at the free clinic. Last year, I was 5th in line when I arrived…behind four Hispanic families getting their children tested for school.

None spoke English.

Such is life in San Diego.

As an aside, it looks like Annika’s departure from the blogging scene has brought two additional San Diegans…Casca and Joules. Add Yiddish and myself…we could call ourselves the 6mb West Coast Banditos…

I live eight miles from the border. I had a girlfriend who taught grade school about a mile from the border, you know where the Mexican children use false addresses to commute from Tijuana to Gringoland for a free education courtesy of the political machinations of the NEA/CEA, and the largesse of the taxpayers of California. Yep, she turned up positive for TB.

But the reason that argument does not get made is because people are afraid to say it for fear of being labeled by the PC police.

Some countries just do not have, despite studies that show all of Costa Rica is as sterile as a surgeon’s scalpel, adequate protections against diseases that are pretty much wiped out in this country.

We are about a generation and a half removed from people who have ever had to fear tuberculosis, smallpox, or any other historically fatal strain. Those medical triumphs can always be undone with a new introduction of a mutated strain.

That’s why you have to get shots when you travel to certain countries abroad. But maybe that’s just a booster shot for nativist hysteria and racism. And not diptheria.

Smantix, you’re right about the TB case. That guy happened to have some medical test that revealed the TB. My first thought was, Silly Americans, don’t you wonder how many illegal aliens are here with no screening and no current medical tests that would probably reveal the same results?

I’ve told this story before, but one of the reasons I no longer fly on planes is because a friend of mine who worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention swabbed her lap tray on a plane and found TB and other scary germs.

Sharon, I have a Latina aunt. She has been my aunt for decades. She, my uncle, and my cousins lived for years in California. They then moved to Arizona. I saw them when they came to a funeral here in Tennessee in 2002. I asked my aunt if she missed California. She waved her hand and responded with her heavy Spanish accent, “Aaa! They’re going to give it to the Mexicans!”

When we have 15 million, hell, if we have 1 million illegals overrunning our borders of any nationality or race – I am going to be pissed about it.

It’s been top news for the last few days about one guy with TB on a plane. How many Mexicans do you think would have TB out of 20 million? AIDS? Percentage-wise – what would be an accurate guess based on 20 Million US citizens?

We demand that sex offenders notify us of their every move while we are tolerating potentially tens of thousands of sex offenders who are here illegally that we have no clue about.

I’m paying thousands upon thousands of dollars a year in taxes when illegals are being offered a sweet, Buy-one-get-three years-tax-free deal.

When the Irish are murdering and raping and robbing 76 year old Bellevue grandmothers – I’ll pour a case of Killians in the Cumberland. When those damned drunk-driving Swedes are killing couples on their way home from church in Lakewood – I’ll egg a Saab.

And when the Nashville Icelandic Chamber of Commerce pens a letter to the Police Chief demanding that he not arrest anyone on immigration charges – then I’ll pick on those Bjork loving mofos.

Roughly 1/10th of Nashville should not be here. Mexico is supposed to be our ally – but they are not. They were 60,000 votes away from voting in a Baby Chavez on a our back porch just last year and the internal threat is hardly worth the rise in cocaine purity.

Thank goodness you almost always make me laugh, Smantix.
Tony’s job is the LAST thing I would be doing–lying for Bush? Ha!
Maybe we just disagree on this issue. It just seems to me that the anti immigration people would go a lot further in making their case if they didn’t single out one particular group of people.
Donna Locke is very good about underscoring all nationalities and not just Mexicans, which is why she is an effective speaker for anti (illegal) immigration.
But it makes me nervous when one group is singled out, beit brown or white Irish or whatever.

With all due respect Sharon, your argument is a load of weapons grade bullshit.

The rules apply to everyone. However, if we had 20 million Irish illegals floating in on cases of Killians Red, I’d be the first one burning a box of Lucky Charms and organizing a boycott of St. Patrick’s Day.

And just what is this signaling out “brown people” garbage – what, are you running for Tony Snow’s job?
