Oh and the good part? She put a gorilla on the cover.
Consider that for a minute. Now imagine what that sparked. Now check out what happens when the sheer weight of the collective victim-centric worldviews cause a new black hole to be formed.
OK, I can’t resist – here are some of my favorites:
We all struggle against privilege everyday, be it the male privilege that we encounter or the white privilege that we struggle to push down within ourselves. We can’t expect to be taken seriously if we say one type of privilege is to be abhorred and another is no big deal.
rachel, the picture’s overriding characteristic is not “kitsch.” It is racism. If you want people to overlook the racism in favor of the kitsch, that is racist, as in, supportive of the hierarchy built on race. It trivializes the concerns of those who are not white in favor of attracting white people who are racist and/or sexist. Your priorities are not feminist, rachel, whether they make for good marketing practices or not.

I loved many of the alternate suggestions for a cover. I guess it’s okay for women to be homicidal when dealing with these great apes called average American men. I say put a girl in gogo boots on the cover and have her shoot the gorilla in the back while he sleeps.
Another thought: all of these people concerned over how the cover would offend blacks have already put forward the racist idea that blacks would see themselves reflected in the face of the gorilla. And that these poor black people need to be protected by white America like some kind of endangered species. These idiots are such sanctimonious racist pigs and they don’t even know it.

How insular their world must be for them to speak and think in such terms. Gawd, put aside the white guilt, get a job, work with an African-American. You’ll find that they’re just like everybody else.

Racial trivia: what color is a shaved chimpanzee? White. And yet I’m not offended by chimps, unless they fling poo at me.
I don’t know what color a shaved gorilla is. I imagine it’s not a survivable act.
