Beating in the face is forbidden, even when it comes to animals. When a person is beating an animal… Even if you want your camel or donkey to start walking, you are not allowed to beat it in the face. If this is true for animals, it is all the more true when it comes to humans. So beatings should be light and not in the face.

I agree with this edict. I never hit my maidservants where their bruises may be visible. It is quite unsettling to see black eyes and bruised lips when they are attending to me. I prefer to look at pleasing faces.
Please do not misunderstand. I am not averse to sending the more opinionated slave girls away limping, or cradling their elbows.
