The Diplomatic Forearm Shiver
November 10th, 2007 at 7:20 pm by BrianThough no fan of the course Spain’s been on for the last several years, I do enjoy a good catfight. Moreso when it ends with the head of a still relevant country offering the head of second rate dictatorship a pipin’ hot cup of STFU:
Mr Chavez called Mr Aznar, a close ally of US President George W Bush, a fascist (ed note: notice the lack of scare quotes), adding “fascists are not human. A snake is more human.”
Mr Zapatero said: “Former President Aznar was democratically elected by the Spanish people and was a legitimate representative of the Spanish people.”
Mr Chavez repeatedly tried to interrupt, despite his microphone being turned off. The king leaned forward and said: “Why don’t you shut up?”
Careful there, Mr. Zapatero. Hugo’s been hanging out with Naomi Campbell and has now been trained to sling a cellphone with deadly accuracy.
Not to let such aggression stand, the Communist dictator responded with the characteristic restraint that has made him a hero to the Democratic Underground set:
According to the Associated Press news agency, he said: “I do not offend by telling the truth. The Venezuelan government reserves the right to respond to any aggression, anywhere, in any space and in any manner.”
Such unilateral passion! I wish we had someone who acted so impulsively in the White House. Someone willing to respond to any aggression, anywhere, and in any manner they saw fit. Detractors be damned.
I assume that to mean that masked gunmen will be firing at random passers-by in the streets of Madrid any moment.
