Why Tancredo Is My Choice

November 14th, 2007 at 4:18 pm by Preston Taylor Holmes

He’s been the only candidate who, from the very beginning, is willing to link our open borders with the throngs who are here and/or coming to kill us.

“There are consequences to open borders beyond the 20 million aliens who have come to take our jobs,” a narrator says. “Islamic terrorists now freely roam U.S. soil, jihadists who froth with hate, here to do as they have in London, Spain, Russia. The price we pay for spineless politicians who refuse to defend our borders against those who come to kill.”

Tancredo, a Colorado congressman who has long advocated tight limits on immigration, barely registers in public opinion polls. But the immigration issue does resonate. Sen. John McCain, who helped lead an effort to overhaul immigration laws and provide a path to citizenship for some immigrants, lost momentum last spring as the debate over the legislation played out in Congress.

The powerful image of a hooded terrorist plays to viewers’ post-9/11 fears. It is reminiscent of Lyndon Johnson’s “Daisy” ad in 1964 against Barry Goldwater, which suggested a Goldwater presidency could result in nuclear war.

“I approve this message because someone needs to say it,” Tancredo says at the beginning of the ad.

We need more ads that speak the truth like this one.

    spot on!

hey, i did that dumb online prez poll the other day. i figured fred would come out on top.

it was tanc, then duncan hunter, then fred.

unlike the dems, you can’t say there’s a lack of quality in the right wingers trick bag.

i guess some of us are aware that jihad has been in the phillipines for a few years now.

“The powerful image of a hooded terrorist plays to viewers’ post-9/11 fears.”

Here the implication is that Tancredo supporters are frightened sheep. What else would the image be, if your message is that terrorists are coming over the borders?

[...] The founder of Six Meat Buffet explains why Tom Tancredo is his man for President in this coming election: He’s been the only candidate who, from the very beginning, is willing to link our open borders with the throngs who are here and/or coming to kill us. 4. Nigel Says:

Me? My perfect choice would be Duncan Hunter. Pro-borders, anti-immigration, pro-kick Islamotard ass, anti-abortion, anti-spending, etc.

Alas, he does not have the bucks in the coffers to make a serious run. Wouldn’t mind seeing him head up DHS though…

Tancredo? No chance. He is a one-issue pony, and while I agree with him, he just plays like he’s on a loop with the same message over and over again…

I’m a Rudy guy right now. Not as conservative as I would like except for one thing. As Dennis Miller put it, when it comes to fighting the Islamotards, Rudy is entering his “prime killing years”. That resonates with me more than anything else.

  5. Donna Locke Says:

I’ll vote for Tancredo. He has been consistent on this issue and fully understands what a dangerous (in so many ways) mess our current lax immigration policy is. I advise folks to read this.

  6. Brian McMurphy Says:

Apparently no one has seen the latest commercial from the Environmental Defense Fund on so-called “global warming”.

The true heir to the completely unpartisan and objective Bill Moyers’ famed “Daisy” ad.

Per Gateway, Youtube has now flagged Tancredo’s video as adult content.

  7. Preston Taylor Holmes Says:

I like Duncan Hunter too. I would be all over the Fred bandwagon if he hadn’t been so wishy washy since he entered the race. He’s starting to smell of old school GOP to me, though I’d prefer him to Giuliani any day.

Tancredo is the only candidate who has mentioned (in a roundabout way) nuking Mecca. That’s another reason I support him.

p.s. Kleinfelcher stopped by! Hi! I’m on TV! Oh, wait.

  8. Brian McMurphy Says:

I just watched the ad. In all honesty, I think it was poorly done. That’s a criticism of the execution and not the message. Jumbled and hurried with a Sopranos finale ending.

Show the Madrid bus. The London rail. Then show a yellow school bus in a suburban neighborhood. The door opening and a bus driver screaming “You can’t get on here!” as you see the back of a full-grown man forcing his way onto the bus. Then fade to black with the kids screaming. There’s some top-notch fearmongering free of charge.

Tancredo has been a one-note candidate. Anyone can usurp his mantle in a debate or two if they hit the right notes.

My support for Thompson continues unabated. However, I question the wisdom behind this bold New Media campaign strategy and I don’t think that will work.

Part of what I consider the problem of his launch is that it runs contra to the way it’s always done. Party politics are payday for full-time pols. They want jobs. If you aren’t building a state-by-state organization then by God I’ll find a candidate who will. And they (your own “side”) will kneecap you if you don’t.

Candidates buy the loyalty of the local political machines through jobs on the campaign trail.

  9. Preston Taylor Holmes Says:

“Party politics are payday for full-time pols. They want jobs.”

This is why presidential campaigns for 2008 actually started in 2006 this time around. The major parties are simply vehicles for revenue generation and power plays. The platforms are not-so-carefully results of too much time spent on surveys and focus groups instead of a candidate who has actual beliefs or character.

    Oh well.

What I liked about that ad is that you won’t see any of the other candidates from either party touch images like these – even though they’re soft by my standards. Even Roooody is scared to mention 9/11 now that the Old Media has beaten him down.

  10. Donna Locke Says:

Tancredo truly is a courageous man. I know something about his enemies and how he has been threatened by them over the years. People hear the one note because Tancredo feels he has to carry that charge as a number-one priority, but he has a lot to say about other issues. His background is in education, and he has thoughtful ideas about that issue and others.

As for campaign decisions, Tancredo has not always had the best advice. There’s a lot I could say about that, but it’s late. Later than you think.

  11. Brian McMurphy Says:

Fugging Firefox updates crash more than Valujet. What the hell are those people doing with these updates?

Pretend I just had a thoughtful three paragraph contribution that was funny, insightful, and had a punchy conclusion.

  12. Vinnie Says:

    What? What is this?

You’re endorsing a Republican for President?

Traitor, you embarrass me and every other member of the IPP.

  13. richard Says:

    hey, preston,

there’s plenty not to like about fred(besides his birthing in alabama). he’s a howard baker pro-teau-j, he’s a lawyer, a politician, and an actor(union, baby!) and so on blah blah blah. old school GOP for sure

but…fred’s the only one hammering state’s rights.

Duncan hunter with a fred veep would “sassify”.

  14. Nigel Says:

You’re endorsing a Republican for President?

Actually Vinnie, I think Tancredo is a RINO…he’s actually a Prick.

    Same with Rudy. Ask NYers…

Actually, I’m probably voting for Dave at Iowahawk, though his campaign seems to have fizzled…

  15. Cranky Says:

    Very insightful, Brian. Chuckle-worthy too.

BTW, I think some of the Ron Paul Koolaid is entering my bloodstream. Why not a guy who really shakes things up?

  16. Number9 Says:

I like Tancredo. Duncan Hunter also. I think the best ticket is Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter. Fred has had a slow start. Time will tell if he can narrow the gap.

  17. Reverse_Vampyr Says:

    Thursday blogroll roundup…

Since I’m busy today cranking out yet another website design (damn, I do love this crosstraining), I don’t have time to blog. But there are plenty of good ones out there today. Click the linkies, show the love….

  18. Brian McMurphy Says:

Me and a friend of mine went to lunch today and he said that he had Ron Paul feveh coursing through his veins. I gave him directions to the Free Clinic.

At heart, I’m a federalist but Ron Paul’s take on federalism is what’s known in the bidness world as “malicious compliance”. The people who are drinking his Kool-Aid might as well be singing Kumbaya on the flight to Guyana.

In fact, a photoshop opportunity abounds with that visual.

  19. Nigel Says:

    Yeah…why not Ron Paul?

Except that the guy is a total dork. Being president is not just about ideas, but about leading. And can you imagine this guy as leader of the free world?
