A Coalition Of The Stalling
November 15th, 2007 at 2:12 am by BrianI believe it was Boutrous Boutrous-Gretzky who once noted: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
Darfur mission ‘may fail’ says UN:
The lack of agreement from Sudan on the make-up of the troops could also threaten the mission, he warns.
Sudan wants it to consist predominantly of troops from African countries, and is unhappy that peacekeepers from Thailand, Nepal and Norway have been added to the force.
The UN says that the force will still be three-quarters African, and that alternative troops from African countries do not meet appropriate standards.
“If those issues are not addressed it means that the mission in 2008… will not be able to make the difference that the world wants it to make and that it may become a failure,” said Mr Guehenno.
Ah, affirmative action UN-style.
If we apply the new “May Fail” Corollary to every situation the UN cannot possibly handle, will they quit bothering everyone about global warming? I mean if you “may fail” in policing a ragtag, third world country, how can we expect you to save the world?
The UN “may fail” at something. Excuse me for a moment while I rock back and forth in the corner trying to resolve how that could even be possible. If only we had their backing, the Taliban could be negotiating the terms of the multi-lateral peace force to be deployed never.
But perhaps I’m just looking at this all wrong as it was decided some time ago that the cause of the Sudanese genocide was a foregone conclusion:
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon…”The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change,” Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column.
“It is no accident that the violence in Darfur erupted during the drought,” Ban said.
That was Ban Ki’s conclusion 5 months ago. Since then he took a 45 minutes flight over Antarctica and witnessed global warming first hand.
Which completely makes sense because I got my degree in Climatology after a 3 hour flight from BNA to Denver. Expect rampant Plains States genocide from southern Missouri to northern Kansas in about four years.

Don’t worry – everyone in Darfur is going to be just fine. Because there is a certain female Nashville blogger who is going to raise some money and go down there to TCB.
Oh wait, maybe not.

Darfur is a non-issue anyway. Before the 2006 election, the Donks were very Brandy Bunch in their “Jan”-tastic rallying cry of Darfur, Darfur, Darfur.
Then they got to the votes to do something about it but that Chickendove had already flown the coop.
But if you don’t want to do anything tangible to help you can always “raise awareness”. Sure beats doing something.
This is all for naught by Ban Ki Moon standards though. His priorities are reversed. If we can’t stop global warming, which if we were really serious about we would extinguish our planet’s molten core, how on earth can we stop that guy in another country from killing his neighbor?

Well, war is never the answer. So obviously promoting diversity in the UN peacekeeping force is the natural course of action.
ps. The Dalai Lama called, he says “thanks a pantload” to all his Hollywood friends who have alleviated the oppression of the Tibet by raising awareness. The bumper stickers were a nice flourish.

I seriously doubt the African “peacekeepers” desire to keep the non-Africans out has anything to do with race. There’s a tradition of bribery, internal racism, and clan favoritism going on in much of Africa that the Norwegians just wouldn’t understand. I’m sure the “peacekeepers” would just like to keep that to themselves.

“Boutrous Boutrous-Gretzky”… Classic! Did he play alongside Paul Koffey Anan for those great Edmonton Oilers teams of the late 80′s?!
This “Clan Favoritism” of which Michele speaks reminds me of the long-standing Crips & Bloods feud in South Central LA, that the Latin Kings and Jardin 13 would never understand.

My gosh…our buddy Ban has his head so far up his ass I don’t know where to start.
First of all, I AM in favor of “saving Darfur”. We (the US) could actually do it rather easily…a few well-placed missles landing in Khartoum would get a LOT done. A cutting the head off the Islamotard snake so to speak…
Of course, the UN would have a hissy at that…
This “Darfur” crisis of course has NOTHING to do with global warming and drought. This genocide has been building since 1955.
I have in my possession a tape…”Sudan:The Hidden Holocaust”…distributed by Jeremiah Films in 1999. This genocide was recognized by the evangelical Christian community long before liberals made it their cause celebre’. In fact Franklin Graham went to President Clinton and asked him to do something about it…he was told that his administration would “look into it”.
Of course our buddy Ban points at global warming as the cause when the real cause is Islamofacism and the UN non-response for decades. I’d get into a full scale explanation, but in the words of Rosie O’ Fat…Scorched Earth Campaign…GOOGLE IT!
As far as global warming affecting Antartica…hmm. I wonder if our buddy Ban actually talks to any real scientist about what is really happening in Antarctica…
Just sayin’
