I'd say if several of those those nine years were filled with divorce proceedings and you didn't have kids that BT's stance would have less merit.

20 years and kids? Different story.

If my husband of almost 20 years decided he was going to take up with a waffle waitress I would immediately contact the most powerful divorce attorney I could find to start working on the paperwork that would enable me to keep everything he ever had, keep everything that we ever had, keep and take everything that he will ever have, and take everything he gave to me BUT his last name!!!

There's all kinds of forms to fill out to change your name back I think. My parents got divorced and my mom kept my dad's name. I've never asked her why.

We divorced after ten years of marriage and three kids. I kept his name. It was just a lot simpler to have the same name as the kids. It is a major hassle to change your name with the DMV, SSA, employer, credit cards, banks, insurance, etc. The name itself really meant little to me, no more than the letters and numbers on the tag on the car do, it's just a means of identification.

Gotcha. I thought you were coming from a different angle.

As in daddy issues cause ex-husbands.

Um. If my Daddy begat my ex husband, then wouldn't the married name be the maiden name? In that case I would just go to the phone book and find something that sounded good, and have it changed for my gravestone before I nipped off and shot myself.

No alliteration at all.

No waffle waitresses are greasing my griddle.

I'm just wondering why someone would keep the maiden name of someone who rejected them except to pimp it as a conversation starter. I guess if you spent most of your life with that name but if it was just a couple of years, I don't get it.

That's where you come in.
