It’s all downhill from here. You run to the left for the nomination and then, if you’re smart, you try to claw your way back to the center so normal people who don’t follow politics until the general forget what a stark, raving nut you are. Try to over-correct too fast and you will lose your base though.
Not even an Obamessiah can hemorrhage key supporters like this:
On Wednesday Obama pledged to a meeting of the powerful Washington lobby American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) his “unshakeable commitment to Israel’s security” if he is elected president in November, and insisted that Jerusalem should stay an undivided Israeli city.
Leading Palestinians including president Mahmud Abbas condemned the remarks.
“Jerusalem is one of the files under negotiation. The entire world knows perfectly well that we will never accept a state without (east) Jerusalem (as its capital). That should be clear,” Abbas said.
When reached for comment, an Iranian Obama enthusiast “Mahmoud A.” (who asked to remain anonymous) noted “this is not the Barack Obama I knew”. The person I watched today was not the person I have supported for the last 17 months. His comments were not only divisive and destructive, but I believe they give comfort to those that prey on hate.*
So Barack is begging for Jewish votes at AIPAC - The Home of the Bloodthirsty Neocon Cabal ™, eh? Ground Zero for George Bush’s misguided elective war.
Regardless, losing the backing of such well-respected foreign leaders like Abbas is a bad sign for a guy whose lack of foreign policy experience is such a good thing. At least in the Bizarro world where people like B-HO think Abbas is respectable.
If elected, Obama promised to begin Jimmy Carter’s 2nd Term by sticking America’s nose in other people’s business to force a peace that neither side can stomach. That turned out so well the last time.
Happy demagoguing.
