U.N.interested
June 6th, 2008 at 6:06 pm by BrianWhen in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
Today, some of the causes are getting declared:
The United States has quietly informed Western allies of its intention to walk away from the U.N. Human Rights Council, diplomatic sources said on Friday.

“They said they were going to disengage totally,” said one representative of a rights watchdog group.
Clearly complaining to this group about Human Rights is a waste of everyone’s time and our money.
The Council replaced the widely discredited U.N. Commission on Human Rights. But it is seen by critics as having fallen under control of a bloc of Islamic and African countries, which have a majority when backed by their frequent allies Russia, China and Cuba.
My first instinct is that the Left will be cheering this move as well. As if reciting “Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo!!!@11!” carries the same weight as Sudanese genocide, mass starvation in Zimbabwe, a junta shutting out foreign aid from helping its cyclone-ravaged citizenry, Islamic attacks on a Danish Embassy on the anniversary of a cartoon being published, a militarized Venezuela shutting down all opposition press, and forced clitorectomies for all is preferable to playing naked twister with enemy combatants and providing terrorists with legal representation / religiously appropriate meals.
However, when it comes to getting the U.S. out the U.N. we’ll take the small victories where we can get them.
