An astonishing outcome was that the patient with severe visuospatial impairment, without assistance, extended his learning by finding his way to the bus stop and going by bus to and from home. The results on the Activity Scale, which were assessed by the nurse at the training apartment, showed that all the patients, after a maximum of nine months, had learned to perform a series of tasks associated with a complex household activity. These comprised eleven tasks from planning a meal to put item back where they belonged. These tasks are e. When it came to choice of social interaction, four patients chose singing rather than dancing and one patient did not choose either of these activities. The paper discusses potential problems with the use of adaptive trials, especially in phase III settings. They argue that key parameters such as (unstandardized) effect size or equivalence margin should not be modified. Authors provide a nontechnical review of current literature on adaptive designs. They discuss definitions, challenges, controversies and specifically focus on contrasting sample size reestimating procedures based on the single interim analysis with and without treatment effect reestimation. Knoxville Turning Into the O.K. Corral?

August 21st, 2008 at 10:37 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

To paraphrase the Obamessiah, “this is not the Knoxville I used to know.”

One student dead in Central High School shooting.

Kevin Perry, pastor of Word of Life Ministries in the Burlington community, said he talked to a student who attends his church and was in the cafeteria at the time of the shooting.

“He saw them when they were arguing and pushing and shoving,” Perry said. “He didn’t see the guy shoot him. What he did see was the guy fall.

“He shot the guy in the chest and casually walked away as if nothing had happened.”

Student Devin Dial, a junior, said the shooting happened shortly after 8 a.m.

“I walked in and went straight to the Commons,” she said.

“I didn’t hear it, but I saw them go to the ground.

“I saw (the wounded boy) go to the ground and start shaking.”

She said she called her mother and got out of the school.

Early word on radio reports was that this was not random, but an altercation between students. There were also reports of the shooter being hispanic and the victim being white – this should automatically qualify as a hate crime, no? It will be interesting to watch the media dance around the racial component and whether or not the shooter turns out to be legal. Watch the media process at work as this unfolds.

Thoughts and prayers to the victim and the victim’s family.

UPDATE: Turns out murder runs in the family for the shooter.

Here is more on the victim as well.

UPDATE: Insty pretty much nails it.

When I went to Central High, I went to TVUUC. Strange coincidence.

That 17 year old kid at Karns High fell off the back of a truck and died a few days ago due to a teacher’s negligence, now this kid gets shot.

I couldn’t imagine the parents’ grief. At some point in time, one little thing could have changed and both of these tragedies could have been avoided. That’s what would be going through my mind the rest of my life.
