The Passion of the African-American

October 16th, 2008 at 11:44 am by TinyElvis

On Tuesday, CNN was running this headline story regarding the passion of the “African-American” voter this fall.

If I understand this article correctly, a large percentage of the Black population supporting a Black (sorta) candidate primarily because of his skin color, can only be described as “passion”. The years of fighting the fight have finally paid off.

Some random observations…

I know that we say Obamessiah in jest, but according to Ollie James, an 84-year-old fellow from Missouri, Barry Obama truly is the Messiah sent directly from God in Heaven.

“I know he is going to win,” James said after services at Leonard Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis. “See, God answers prayers, and I am a praying man, and I know he is going to win.”

Now Ollie appears old enough to remember when he first received his 40-acres and a mule, so perhaps we can simply attribute this comment to dementia.

Now on to facts that offend. Even though Barry has been photographed wearing a head towel, AND his middle name is Hussein, the Rev. Steven Thompson still finds a factual billboard offensive.

In the Missouri Ozarks, a roadside billboard shows a cartoon of Obama with a turban, his middle name “Hussein” in bold red letters. “If I spent my time getting angry about the things people do, then I can’t do what I effectively do here,” Thompson said as he gestured toward the pulpit. “Those people who do stuff like that, the only thing I can say is, we pray for them.”

Somehow I doubt we will ever see an article about white passion.

Do you know what a passionate white man is called?

A racist.

Update:
It appears that the word passion has been removed from the CNN article. Hmmm..

    Greetings:

Back in the joy of my youth, in the Bronx of the late ‘50s and early ‘60s, basketball became the preferred way to waste my time. Eventually, my skills led me and some friends to travel to other neighborhoods in search of new competition. Some of these neighborhoods were more “diverse” and less safe than my own. News of my travels reached my father and I was subsequently summoned to a “Denis, me boy-o” meeting in our living room.

My father had grown up in Ireland and came to this country in 1927, in time for both the Great Depression and World War II. He was a practicing Catholic and, to my knowledge, had no particular bone to pick with black folks. When he found out where I had been traveling to play ball, he shared the following advise with me; “right or wrong, don’t ever expect them to take your part against their own.”

It was good advice then, as now.

is worth watching. Three people are asked who they are voting for. B. Hussein, of course… But then they are asked what they think of HIS choice as Sarah Palin for VP, and they all think she is fine…

    Idiots. Every one of ‘em.

Oops. That was racists of me, wasn’t it!

If I had a clue what “wrap your long URL’s” means, I would be happy to do so. Unfortunately – some of us bloggers are of the most basic skill set when it comes to computer technology – and I am one of those. Thanks for making it a “link” for me, though. Assistance is always appreciated!
