Save My Seat Will Ya?

October 19th, 2008 at 6:53 pm by Brian

Arizona Republic reporter Michael Sneed tattles on a most peculiar request from his state’s senator, assuming he wins the White House.  Rumor is McCain wants to make sure his seat stay white:

Sneed hears John McCain wants a Caucasian to fill his U.S. Senate seat if he wins the presidency.

Just kidding.  It’s actually Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times and it’s Barack Obama who wants to make sure his Senate seat only goes to a black person if he wins.  ***Correction*** Specifically, to have his seat filled by Sen. Donne Trotter at the urging of yet another one of his shady political mentors who recently called a black female political consultant an Uncle Tom for becoming a Hillary Clinton delegate:

Delegate says Jones called her ‘Uncle Tom’
‘WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?’ | Aldermen heard remark but believe Senate president ’said it in jest’

DENVER — A black Hillary Clinton delegate on Sunday accused state Senate President Emil Jones of calling her an “Uncle Tom.”

Jones — Barack Obama’s political mentor — denied using the racially loaded slur against Chicago political consultant Delmarie Cobb, but two aldermen who said they witnessed the Saturday night exchange back up Cobb’s account.

“Last night, I was called an ‘Uncle Tom’ by Emil Jones in the lobby of the hotel, right in front of [Ald.] Freddrenna Lyle and [Ald.] Leslie Hairston and [Ald.] Latasha Thomas,” said Cobb, a member of Clinton’s Illinois Steering Committee. “I walked over to him and asked him, ‘What did you just call me?’ ”

The embarrassing flap came on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, which will open tonight with a string of Chicago speakers talking about Obama’s life story. Jones is often referred to as Obama’s “political godfather.”

Thank Allah, er, I mean God that we live in this time of post-racial politics.

/Because of the Transformative Transcendental Changiness!

VIDEO: Of a bad liar and the person charged with selecting Illinois’ next junior Senator.  Coincidentally, the same person.

Updated: Donne Trotter is eyeball deep in the mud of Chicago politics as well.  A somewhat unusual choice given some characterizations he has given of The Chosen One.

Barack is viewed in part to be the white man in blackface in our community,” says Donne Trotter, who detests Obama. “You just have to look at his supporters. Who pushed him to get where he is so fast? It’s these individuals in Hyde Park, who don’t always have the best interests of the community in mind.”

Quite a 180 there.  Quid pro quo, bro.  No?

Trotter, however, is steeped in that gun-grabbing, wealth-redistributing, felon-loving, racebaiting tea:

Then the senator (Trotter) stopped at the house of a young man who’d recently been released from “the system” and was having trouble finding a job. Trotter told the man he’d try to make it illegal for employers to ask “have you ever been convicted of a felony?” on job applications.

“One of the things we’re going to be looking at in Congress is this double jeopardy thing,” he said. “Once you’ve done your time, you should be welcome back to the community.”

Trotter offered to refer the man to an employment program.

“I can’t promise you a chicken, but I might get you chicken wings,” the senator said.

Do you deserve to know if you might be hiring a felon?  Eh, what you don’t know won’t hurt you.  The whole thing is worth a read.

“That was not. That was not.” Is that some type of urban speak? I couldn’t hear a complete sentence in that video.

  2. Brian Says:

I made an important correction to a section of that post as I misread who was being asked to replace – rather who was being charged with lobbying for the selection than the actual candidate to replace.
