Country Club Republicans have to much to lose financially with a true conservative in the White House. They would rather have big Spending Democrats that they can reap wind-falls from. The think one way and live another. Remember, these are the same people that backed Dole and elder Bush over Reagan in 1980. They weren’t in love with Reagan as much as people think today. Just let the political marketplace do its’ job. With a little help from a Democrat Congress in war with itself and a figure-head President, we’ll be alright in 2012.

Obama hasn’t even been sworn into office yet and you are looking for a Republican candidate?! Don’t wish your life away. You probably defended W. to the hilt. We got alot of time and have to see how he does. Plus, being from Chicago I am sure Obama will pick many University of Chicago Friedman economic proteges to staff his economic positions. Right now, it looks more centrist than I would have given him credit for or predicted. Bush put this country and his party in a world of hurt. He treated both like “ladies of the evening.” The best thing that can happen to the GOP is for him to go back to Crawford and never be heard from again. The Democrats could have elected their own Ronald Reagan in Obama or it’s a political version of dancing with the stars. Either way, let him do something before we critize his performance.

Like I said, I’m still looking for a candidate, particularly one who actually understands the conservative principles behind the talking points. If the conservative movement is to recover from where we are, we really shouldn’t tie our wagon to a falling star and spend all our time acticng as apoligists for politicians who don’t know which way is up, much less which way is Right.

You asked for an example of Palin’s dullness. I provided one. Peter suggeted she never said what she said. I demonstrated that she had, at least twice.

I’m looking for a strong conservative leader who can clearly make the case for fiscal conservitism and limited government. All Palin will ever be is a punching bag for liberals. If you want to use the drubbing she’ll get to point out how horrible the liberals are, have at it. I hardly think that’s constructive, though.

Indeed SNL made fun of the comment, but Palin said it first in her interview with Charles Gibson on ABC. Then she repeated it in her interview with Katie Couric. Mind you, neither Gibson nor Couric are rocket scientists. If Palin had much going on, she shoud’ve been able to dispatch them both easily.

From ABC interview with Palin:

Palin: “And, Charlie, you’re in Alaska. We have that very narrow maritime border between the United States, and the 49th state, Alaska, and Russia. They are our next door neighbors.We need to have a good relationship with them. They’re very, very important to us and they are our next door neighbor.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions, particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”

From CBS interview with Palin:

“Couric: You’ve cited Alaska’s proximity to Russia as part of your foreign policy experience. What did you mean by that?

Sarah Palin: That Alaska has a very narrow maritime border between a foreign country, Russia, and, on our other side, the land-boundary that we have with Canada. It’s funny that a comment like that was kinda made to … I don’t know, you know … reporters.

Couric: Mocked?

Palin: Yeah, mocked, I guess that’s the word, yeah.

Couric: Well, explain to me why that enhances your foreign-policy credentials.

Palin: Well, it certainly does, because our, our next-door neighbors are foreign countries, there in the state that I am the executive of.”

“you can see Russia from Alaska’comment” … Sarah Palin never said that. That was from a Saturday Night Live skit with Tina Fey impersonating Palin. The sad factor is once that got repeated into the liberals’ meme as having been said by Palin, it never left, and the McCain campaign never refuted it.
