Backpedalling
December 8th, 2008 at 7:52 pm by CrankySo Obama is proving to be a centrist, at least initally. I’m pleasantly surprised, but I guess liberals are too saavy to be caught off guard.
“He has confirmed what our suspicions were by surrounding himself with a centrist to right cabinet. But we do hope that before it’s all over we can get at least one authentic progressive appointment,” said Tim Carpenter, national director of the Progressive Democrats of America.
Yesterday, the progressives were eating loaves and fishes on the mountainside. Today, they’re Pharisees. Even the press is backing off a bit.
Obama insists he hasn’t abandoned the goals that made him feel to some like a liberal savior. But the left’s bill of particulars against Obama is long, and growing.
What do you mean “we”? You can almost feel for this journalist. Yesterday genuflecting and today affecting the blase.

The President-elect knows that the US is a center-right nation and he wants to be re-elected in four years. His cabinet is idelogically more conservative and pragmatic than Ronald Reagan’s. So far, even tought I didn’t vote for him, I am very impressed. I am wondering what all those UAW members who went door-to-door, made phone calls, and put out yard signs think of him now. He doesn’t seem to be towing their line in the bailout of the Big Three.

I think we’re looking at two different worlds.
