Washington Tells You (For The Billionth Time) To Suck It

December 10th, 2008 at 9:24 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

President Junior and his Congressional brothers-in-arms are trying to ram-rod the auto-industry bailout (you knew it was coming) down your throat. Again they’re taking a dump in your mouth and telling you it’s a chocolate sundae.

A handful of GOP Senators are showing some stones, though. Richard Shelby calls it a “bridge loan to nowhere”. Sweet.

WALLACE: Let’s bring in Senator Shelby. You’ve been one of the leading critics of any bailout. From what you’re hearing — $15 billion, get them through until March, going to have an administrator who makes sure they keep their promises. Will you support that?

SHELBY: Oh, absolutely not. I think this is a bridge loan to nowhere. This is a down payment on many billions to come. This is not something that happened overnight. This is 30 years in the making. These companies basically are — have failed, are failing. They probably need, according to some people, about 60 percent of the management to go, and about 40 percent downsize of the workers. They’ve got to compete. They can’t compete today. And the question is, will they be able to compete tomorrow?

WALLACE: Are you and other Republicans prepared to filibuster this bill?

SHELBY: Well, I would — I think we need to debate it. And that’s what filibuster is about. And this week would be a good time to do it. I hope that we will be able to have an extended debate on it. We’ll see what happens.

The Feds have worked hard to make sure the Big 3 can’t compete. From absurd CAFE and environmental standards to sucking up to the unions, which have produced a bunch of overpriced and entitlement class factory workers who make $60/hour for taking out the damn trash.

The “Big 3″ need to demonstrate that they can compete – something they haven’t done for decades. There is a damn good reason the Toyotas, Nissans and VWs of the world are opening plants in the South – quality non-union labor at market prices in right-to-work states works every stinking time.

Instead of laying back and taking it while Washington rapes you with another bailout, let your Senators know that you don’t appreciate them or the way they continue to piss away your kids’ financial future. It’s time for the small-government Conservatives in the GOP to stand up and be counted.

UPDATE: Unlike McShame’s Gang of 14, we now have a Gang of 5 conservatives ready to fight. Coburn, Vitter, DeMint, Ensign, Shelby. If these are your Senators, call them and thank them.

I don’t think they should get squat. I hold the UAW accountable. They are the ones who have halted the American auto industry. We should have had cars that FLY by now, but NO, we’re stuck with the latest Buick (who the hell buys Buicks, can anyone tell me where one can even BUY a Buick?) Crap Avenue, which in fact DOES NOT fly. And what about ashtrays? Why don’t American cars have ashtrays? Don’t we smoke cigars anymore when we’re tired from a day of dominating those other losers? C’mon! Bring us back to glory and make Detroit take a close and hard look in the mirror while they’re doing the Sunday Chapter 11 crossword.

First, Congress should learn double-ledger bookkeeping; that is, when you bailout one person, you put another in trouble.

Second, the Big Three should file Chapter 11 bankruptcy, if for nothing else, to cut the number of dealers. Toyota sold slighty more cars in the US than GM last year with only 1,500 dealers, GM had 7,000. Bankruptcy would elimate all the different states contactual agreements that would take an army of attorneys and years of fighting in court to break.

Third, the current bailout is nothing more than the UAW Preservation Act. It helps the Union but not much else.
