“Seared Conscience” Is Just The Phrase I Was Seeking
March 4th, 2009 at 9:25 am by Preston Taylor HolmesWay back in the early days of this blog, I confessed that I was an Alan Keyes voter in the 2000 primary. His recent comments on the Obamessiah just reminded me why I did so.
Did I mention that Keyes happens to be clean and articulate?
Just as with Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, and now to a slightly lesser degree, Rush Limbaugh, to the intellectual elite of the Republican party and the big shots of the “conservative” blogosphere, it’s not cool to like Alan Keyes. Even worse, it’s certainly not cool to make mention of anyone who brings up the fact that the Obamessiah may or may not be constitutionally qualified to even hold the office.
I think I’ve proven here several times over that I don’t give two shits about what is cool to the GOP elite. They’re the ones who have given us two straight catastrophic electoral defeats and yet we continue to let liberals run the party. Hence, its continued slide into irrelevance. The GOP now has a very clear opportunity to reclaim the position as the party of financial responsibility, personal responsibility and individual liberty – so far, not so good.
Like it or not, Keyes nails Dear Leader to the wall here, and anyone who does not see the danger in our country being led by this narcissistic Marxist is deluding themselves.
UPDATE: Dan Collins provides an example of exactly what I’m talking about when I say “elites”. Moran is one of the barely-right-leaning blogosphere’s many “very serious bloggers” that we are to emulate – nay, parrot! How’s that capitulating to the MSM going for you? Oh yeah, two straight beatdowns at the ballot box. Well, nothing says future success like repeating the same failures, so keep it up, GOP!

Preston,
I was also a Keyes man…woman….anyway, I thought he was very underrated as statesmen go. I found him intelligent, erudite and logical. Thought highly of his platform, too. I think he was misunderstood or of course, skin color could’ve made a difference. It didn’t for me. I do believe that he would’ve been a far more refined man to reign supreme in the Oval Office…much more so than the current resident and his predecessor.
Keyes, I think, has become something of a present day Adlai Stevenson–minus all the Korean stuff.
Best,
LK

I wish I could express myself like him. I would never shut up if I had the same passionate but cool clarity that he has. I hated watching him get cut off in the early debates. I am so sick of mealy-mouthism in the conservative party.
BTW Laurie… I sure am glad I got booted out of that “place”. Seems they’ve got their panties in a wad making broad generalizations about the “ridiculous” pro-life movement, North Dakota asserting its state’s rights, and how that opens up a “whole can of worms”.
“Considering that many who oppose abortion also oppose birth control, I wouldn’t be surprised this law were used to make some forms of birth control illegal.”

There were no dissenting points of view or requests for statistics in the comments. Well, Jillian did say “vaguely” conservative.
If it’s vague it’s not conservatism.

I’d come along for the ride, but he occasionally swerves off into crazy.
You had me with born-alive protection but lost me at “Is he President? Is he?”

To each their own, Cranky. I realize the horse left the barn a long time ago on the citizenship issue, but I don’t think it will ever be definitively settled. As crazy as everyone wants to paint it, it’s still a valid question.

If it is true that he refused to show his proof of citizenship to the American public it must be considered suspect.

Well, whatd’ya know.

Having just watched the video, I’m supporting what Keyes is saying 9/10ths of the way. He’s losing me at the BC issue. I understand the issues around it. I know about the laws of transmitting citizenship and all the rest. I know it would be easily solved if he would just release the damn Birth Certificate. Or his college papers. Or his lectures. Or the people he worked for. Opinions, etc.
The rest of what Keyes said in that clip I am right there with. Unfortunately, I’ve watched him long enough that I’ve seen him go off the rails before too. Different people have different roles to play. I think he has a role to play but President is not one of them.
As for the moderate Republicans that have run their party in the ground, I refuse to be lectured to about how their party has not been liberal and inclusive enough to win an election.
The conservative and libertarian voters are there to win. The difference is no one is getting out of their chair to vote for a Republican who would rather go-along-get-along than to fight for their goddamned principles.
And yes, Urkel is getting ready to screw this country up more than anyone has in US history. All we need is a terrorist attack when we are at our lowest financial point and the cascading effect would seriously wound this country’s ability to operate anywhere near it’s former capacity for decades.

I think obsessing about the birth certificate issue is counterproductive at this point. Obama voters (and we have to de-program at least some of them if we’re going to turn this boat around) dismiss it as conspiracy nonsense and shut down, refusing to acknowledge the validity of his other points. I L-0-V-E Keyes’ outrage. I WANT MORE OUTRAGE. I’m flat out, full on pissed off and more outrage is in order!

Listen to your wife, Pres. Actually, I should too. Thats what I meant.

I supported Keyes as well. I gathered with a group of supporters weekly back in 2000 to make signs and put info packets together.
Keyes always mops the floor with his debate opponents. Bush and McLame looked like deers in the headlights. The difference? They are politicians. Keyes has passion and believes what he says.

People are afraid of being outraged and going for the throat for fear of being called racists. It’s that simple.
If they only realized that they don’t even have to do that to get called racists it can be very liberating.

Thank you Preston, for providing me the excuse to pimp this old post, regarding the Clean and Articulate gaffe.
