Illegal Immigrant / Rancher Lawsuit Follow-up
March 7th, 2009 at 9:33 am by CrankyHere is some under reported good news.
Sixteen illegal aliens who sued an Arizona rancher, claiming he violated their civil rights and falsely imprisoned them by holding them at gunpoint on his property along the border, have lost their case.
Common sense prevails and scumbag lawyers truly learn the meaning of pro bono as they cannot collect attorney’s fees.
“It was 95 percent victory for us,” he said. “What they really wanted were the first two civil rights claims because if they got those, they got attorney’s fees. With nine attorneys working on the case, I’m sure their fees were $500,000 to $1 million.”
UPDATE: The inestimable Laurie Kendrick shares a close look at life on a border ranch.

Hey SMB,
God knows I would never spam your blog, but regarding the ranching dilemma for people with land adjacent to the US/Mexican border, I thought I’d submit this.

I was born and raised in South Texas. I know about this scenario very well. That rancher was completely within his right to have held the Mexican nationals at gun point. They were criminals and had he not made a citizens arrest, there’s no telling what they would’ve done if left on their own accord. The illegal aliens of yesteryear were “spooks”. Not today, they traveled by foot at night and unlike today, they’d do NOTHING that would risk their being sent back to the depths of Mexico. If they were hungry or thirsty they’d knock on the door and ask for food or water. I’m afraid the US has molly-coddled them to the point that they have that damned sense of entitlement. Now, it seems they just take.
The subject of the above article, gleened from today’s news headlines, conveys some of the strife and anguish that Texans (as in that particular post) have gone through regarding this problem.
Happy Daylight Savings time weekend!!!
