Gunmen in southern Afghanistan killed an Afghan journalist once held by the U.S. military in Afghanistan as an enemy combatant, officials said Wednesday.

In late 2007, Ahmad was detained and held for 11 months by the U.S. military, which accused him of having contact with Taliban leaders and possessing their phone numbers and video of them, according to a complaint filed by Ahmad’s lawyers last year in U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia.

It would be nice to hear him go on about rights afforded to all human beings and how Bush is as bad as Fidel Castro (if only he believed that was the case).
UPDATE: Thanks to first-tier commenters (and co-bloggers), we discover that representing terrorists doesn’t bear a stigma. In fact, it might land you a job in the Administration.

Cranky–This is really a good question. Notably, many Gitmo detainees were represented by a law firm associated with our now Attorney General.
From Col. Cucullu as appearing in the New York Post:
Holder’s previous job, after all, was as a senior partner with Covington and Burling – a white-shoe DC law firm that devotes considerable pro bono time to defending the Gitmo detainees. The job paid $2 million a year, and he expects to collect a like amount this year as part of his separation package.

Forget becoming a First Tier Blogger.
Just represent John Walker Lindh and you can be on your merry way to the Justice Department!
And never report it and you can join the New York Times.

Geez, tough crowd. OK, I’ll check out this “google” thing. It might we worth knowing who’s who. And besides, Lindh is already represented.
