Reminder: Call/Write/Fax Your Senators Today
March 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm by Preston Taylor HolmesCall, write, fax your Senators today. They could be voting as early as today on the GIVE Barack’s Brownshirts act.
I spoke to representatives at both Alexander and Corker’s offices – they have not heard of a Senate version of this bill. I asked Corker’s staffer about S.277 – the “Serve America Act.” She said this is not the same bill as H.R. 1388. Neither office seemed to have much of a clue about H.R. 1388 so it’s up to you to let them know.
UPDATE:
THIS IS NOW BILL S.3577. THIS IS NOW SENATE BILL 277. Debate will take place Tuesday (tomorrow). Call your Senators and reference this bill. Urge them to vote NO.

Wow. You actually do stuff rather than merely complain about it. Hats off to you. And I’ll contact Specter’s office tonight.
March 23rd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
Well, if Cranky’s going to contact Specter, I might as well contact Voinovich and Brown. Maybe we can change a vote or three, or at least let them know how we fell.

Pardon my fronch but Goddammit, how many times do we have to call these motherfuckers??? I’ve sent more messages to these tone deaf assholes since November than I’ve sent my whole life.

It’s the only legal action we can take. We must pretend that they represent us, as much as they pretend to represent us. The charade will end at some point, but while it’s still there, might as well try.

I’m calling, I’m calling…

Even though calling Boxer & Frankenfeinstein’s offices is like asking a Barber Shop in the Castro District to ban Lesbians from getting their crew cuts freshened up. But, i’m going to do it anyway.

You so funny Yid. I really needed that laugh.

I thought lesbians freshened each other’s crewcuts up….(I was thinking it and thought I’d might as well let it out…)
Most of the senators’ websites have local offices numbers, both voice and fax. It took about 10 minutes for me to write a letter and fax it to six local offices between my two senators, in addition to filling in the secure form for e-mail to each of them. This is in most cases more efficient than trying to get through on voice line and is less time consuming as well. I know frustration levels are high and responses are always couched in politics, but take the 10 minutes to at least do this much.

Feel free to let it all out here, AG. We’re a free speech zone until they shut us down. Thanks for doing the faxing & calling – I always Fax, Email and Call to make sure they see it at least once.

Here’s my reply from one of my Senators (The other one is a lame duck RINO and never replies to anything):
Dear Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXXXXX:
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on legislation to expand volunteer service.
I am proud to be a cosponsor of S.227, the Serve America Act. This legislation significantly expands national community service programs, strengthens key components of the AmeriCorps program, and aims to engage 250,000 volunteers in targeted service to areas of national need. The House of Representatives is considering similar legislation, the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act. Neither the Serve America Act nor the GIVE Act require mandatory national service.
Community service is more important than ever during tough economic times, and this bill will allow more Americans to help their neighbors who are struggling to obtain health care, afford energy costs, or feed their families.
I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue, and I will certainly keep your views in mind as the Senate considers additional legislation on community service. Thank you again for writing.
Sincerely,
Sherrod Brown
