Here’s my reply from one of my Senators (The other one is a lame duck RINO and never replies to anything):

Dear Mr. and Mrs. XXXXXXXXX:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on legislation to expand volunteer service.

I am proud to be a cosponsor of S.227, the Serve America Act. This legislation significantly expands national community service programs, strengthens key components of the AmeriCorps program, and aims to engage 250,000 volunteers in targeted service to areas of national need. The House of Representatives is considering similar legislation, the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act. Neither the Serve America Act nor the GIVE Act require mandatory national service.

Community service is more important than ever during tough economic times, and this bill will allow more Americans to help their neighbors who are struggling to obtain health care, afford energy costs, or feed their families.

I appreciate hearing your thoughts on this issue, and I will certainly keep your views in mind as the Senate considers additional legislation on community service. Thank you again for writing.

I thought lesbians freshened each other’s crewcuts up….(I was thinking it and thought I’d might as well let it out…)

Most of the senators’ websites have local offices numbers, both voice and fax. It took about 10 minutes for me to write a letter and fax it to six local offices between my two senators, in addition to filling in the secure form for e-mail to each of them. This is in most cases more efficient than trying to get through on voice line and is less time consuming as well. I know frustration levels are high and responses are always couched in politics, but take the 10 minutes to at least do this much.

Even though calling Boxer & Frankenfeinstein’s offices is like asking a Barber Shop in the Castro District to ban Lesbians from getting their crew cuts freshened up. But, i’m going to do it anyway.
