Republican Exile Not Over

April 1st, 2009 at 9:36 am by Cranky

The fact that the New York congressional race between Democrat Murphy and Republican Tedisco for the seat vacated by Kirsten Gillibrand is too close to call should be a warning to Republicans that all is not forgiven. This is a rural and historically Republican district.

Democrats nationally treated the election as at least a moral victory Tuesday night because Murphy performed so well in the traditionally Republican District that has an edge of 75,000 registered voters.

With a 32% turnout, which is respectable for special elections, it could be that Republicans are still not juiced up about the party. Or worse, maybe Obama’s agenda of nationalization and big money giveaways is more popular than us blogging wingnuts would like to think.

Murphy, a businessman and political newcomer, and national Democrats staked his campaign on the strength of Obama and his economic policies, specifically his $787 billion stimulus plan.

Now it comes down to absentee ballots. Strangely enough, more than 100 votes were found for Al Franken.

True… there are about 10K absentee ballots from this thing that have to be counted – including military ballots.

Look for Team Obama to execute the usual play here… Lose conservative ballots and tie the thing up in court for two years until they can have another election.

What has the GOP done to demonstrate that they get it? So far, I ain’t seen JACK SQUAT.

Obama is still wildly popular amongst his chosen ones. The highest number of voters on something like this will be the people who most need their lifestyle subsidized, which is NYC (no, it won’t make any difference in the House).

Too early for a referendum. Give it time for enough idiocy on Obama’s part to be shown to be of his own making. Like when the free-money-high dies and the bill comes due. Too bad it’s going to be so many trillions of dollars before it is obvious to the more “challenged” folks out there.

And no, the GOP has not done squat. To be fair, they’ve been so far out of the stadium it’s taking them a while to even remember their mamma’s names, much less how to get back and do something useful. Bunch of idiots.

PTH – Not true! They decided that they were being too conservative and that the country is ready for a more liberal Republican Party. Just not *as* liberal as the Democrats. That’s where they come in. And lose.

So by their own logic, they need to become more liberal than the Democrats to win.

Here’s what I know – Obama campaigned for this pissant seat in New York and it’s this close. That star power should have made this a blow out shouldn’t it?
