In response to the Brian about hesitancy on term limits: I share
his reservation, which is why a personal TL pledge is not required for
the F50, but support for a constitutional amendment is.

As for all the intricacies of a legislative body
       1. Elect people smart enough to understand these things in a
short period of time
       2. Extended period of time in congress only makes one more
powerful, not smarter

Hmm. Really good point. People like Pelosi and Rangel have their safe seats for life. But if enough of these neophytes get in, at least they lose their committee seats. But now I'm waxing idealistic.

I've always been torn about the idea of term limits. Technically, every election is a term limit and much like unilateral nuclear arms reductions - only the person who decides to impose these rules on themselves are the ones who are weakened in the future.

The longer they are in Washington, the more powerful a committee they are on. The longer they are there, the more versed they are in the arcane minutiae of procedural maneuvers as Republicans have been repeatedly schooled over the last few years.

Will a Kennedy or Pelosi or Reid or Rangel or Waters or Conyers ever decide that their seat is not for life or that there will ever be a serious threat from the left to unseat them from their ultra-liberal districts? It's fairly unlikely. And then you've got these tricky old bastages up against the young pups not learned in the ways of the deceptions they've mastered.
