I believe it’s mad as in madness. Or as in insane.

For example, Mrs. McMurphy is often known to refer to an unnamed party who occasionally offers a similar style of responses as acting “mad dickish”.

Using my son’s words, you challenging their slang would be “sick”. While I wasn’t paying attention, “Bad” changed from “Badass” and finally “Sick”. Perhaps when it is “Mortis” we can get back to proper speech, like “Bitchin’”.

Part of my current entertainment involves helping the following generations with their English language skills.

You presented such an opportunity with your reference to Mr. Mayer’s “mad guitar skills”.

My humorous reply would be, “I don’t understand, his guitar skills are angry?”. Probably followed by an, “Oh, you mean his guitar skills are mentally unbalanced?”.

It, admittedly, slows the conversation some, but the younger generations are nothing if they’re not mentally flexible. In almost no time at all, most seem able to revert their more proper English. And, I accept their boon with grace.

I don’t know his music (cuz I’m like,…OLD)..but when I read that quote on Big Hollywood this morning, I was ready to go right out and buy all of his albums.

He GETS it.

Then I read the rest of the interview. What a foul-mouthed jerk.
