White House: “We don’t give a shit about protecting Americans, we just want to know how we can use terrorists threats to our political advantage”

December 31st, 2009 at 2:01 pm by Nigel

Or something like that:

“The idea was that we’d show that the Bush Administration had had far worse missteps than we ever could,” says a staffer in the counsel’s office. “We were told that classified material involving anything related to al Qaeda operating in Yemen or Nigeria was fair game and that we’d declassify it if necessary.”

This White House doesn’t view the Northwest [Airlines] failure as one of national security, it’s a political issue, says the White House source. “That’s why Axelrod and Emanuel are driving the issue.”

Disgusting.

Just Because It Means Something To Me

December 31st, 2009 at 11:22 am by Brian

Sadly, a local icon passed away yesterday afternoon.  Doris Demos of the world-renowned, if not Mid-TN renowned, Demos’ restaurant chain died in Murfreesboro:

“She was the heart and soul of Demos’, and she made the heart and soul the way she did with her kids, which was with discipline of the staff — and she did it with 100 percent love,” he said.Peter explained that his mother had been in good health her entire life, but suffered a massive stroke Tuesday night that caused hemorrhaging next to her brain stem. She died on Wednesday afternoon.

I started going to Demos’ shortly after they opened when I attended MTSU.  Mrs. Demos was an omnipresent fixture.  Everything was always outstanding – the food, the staff – everything.  Especially the price.

One night, and this is my only Doris Demos story, I ordered a steak that might have been a little too rare and did not feel so well afterwards.  In what was sure to be a sign of things to come, I left a negative comment card on the table.

Bright and early the very next morning, I got a personal phone call from Mrs. Demos inviting me to come back and that she would take care of everything.  And she did.   That’s been over 15 years ago as much as it pains me to say and to this day I still go there for a bowl of baked chicken and rice soup whenever I start feel a cold coming on.

Godspeed, Mrs. D and condolences to the family.   You are already missed.

A movie review of Avatar from a parallel universe. I’m not sure if the blog owner is one of us or someone poking fun at the “wingnuts”, but either way, good stuff.

AVATAR: A Violent Right-Wing Fantasy

Conservative film director James Cameron once again tweaks the noses of the Hollywood Left by taking dead aim at the Obama Administration in his new movie, AVATAR.

Throughout the years, Cameron has received as much opprobrium from critics for the blatant, in-your-face, right-wing ideology that animates most of his movies as he has acclaim as one of Hollywood’s best action directors and storytellers.

Cameron’s political streak first surfaced in the smash hit, “Terminator”, a movie which pitted the ultimate abortionist from the future against a young mother desperately trying to protect the life of her unborn child. In the sequel and even bigger blockbuster, “Terminator 2″, the ultimate abortionist learns to respect human life as he joins forces with the mother to protect her now teenage son from the forces of faceless, robotic collectivization.

Avatar’s Message

December 27th, 2009 at 8:04 pm by Cranky

I just got back from seeing Avatar in 3D with my son and brother-in-law who is spending the holidays with us.

Quick impression – I loved Avatar. I loved it for the same reason I loved Independence Day; jaw-dropping CGI without any burdensome plot. Full disclosure: I consider 90 minutes of things blowing up a completely satisfactory use of $10 not unlike the people of Idiocracy enjoying their biggest hit movie.

Avatar contains some of the most spectacular visuals I’ve ever seen. The 3D is not overpowering, but rather it creates a lush dream world that is somewhere between a Thomas Kinkade painting and an early 70s Yes album cover.

Humorously enough, for all the magnificent 3D visuals, the characters could not be more 2D. I won’t go into the details because there are so many good reviews. Some links to Big Hollywood reviews here.

Even worse than Cameron’s mediocre ability to flesh out characters is his unimaginative dropping of such politically loaded gems like “shock and awe” and “fight terror with terror” into the mouths of the villains. Seriously, if he wants the genius moniker, I suspect he could have worked a little harder at it.

I knew about Cameron’s lefty agenda going in, so that didn’t really phase me. Besides, all I need to know about what he thinks about me is captured in this fan video.

Belated Thanks to Six Meat West

December 27th, 2009 at 12:51 pm by Brian

Yes, a belated hat tip to Yiddish and Nigel for not clubbing the Titans crowd to death with the yule log Vince Young laid in the home field stocking on Christmas night.

Class act, ya’ll.  With poise, you remained silent after the nationally televised, open-air colonoscopy Philip Rivers performed on the Titans’ secondary.  Thanks to the camera mounted on the tip of his foot, we have identified several polyps in need of removal during the suddenly present offseason.

Admittedly, my prediction would have been was 3-4 interceptions for Young but my fortune-telling abilities had been damaged during a freak turkey & dressing accident earlier in the day.  Little did I know that the biggest turkey was yet to come  as Young had only two interceptions and a forehead slapping fumble.  For the passes where he did sling on target, my dog’s veterinarian hasn’t seen that many balls dropped.  Instead of VY, we’ve got KY.  And every time he’s in use we’re gonna get screwed.

His accuracy as a passing QB makes me long to see Marty Feldman suit up.

Coach Jeff “Cold” Fisher can’t even muster a cheese spread knife of outrage as mistake after mistake compounded to 21 unanswered points topped off with a roughing the passer penalty against Rivers and a foul from the Titans bench after the play was over – all on the same play!

With the exception of a couple of our team members, the rest should serve as towelboys through the Chargers playoff run as they gratefully did not ramp up the score on them again like New England did.  So thanks again for not rubbing it in, guys.

Happy Kwanzaa

December 26th, 2009 at 4:01 pm by Nigel
…for those of you who observe a “holiday” created by a Marxist convicted felon and practitioner of torture:

Kwanzaa was invented in 1966 – by convicted felon Ron Karenga.

Five years after he invented Kwanzaa, Karenga was sentenced to prison “for torturing two black women by whipping them with electrical cords and beating them with a karate baton after stripping them naked. He placed in the mouth of one of the victims a hot soldering iron, also scarring her face with the device. He put one of her big toes in a vise, and detergent and running water in both their mouths.”

At the time he was inventing Kwanzaa, Karenga had also organized a terrorist group at UCLA called “US” (for “United Slaves”). In 1969, Karenga’s followers killed two Black Panthers. While he was in prison, Karenga converted to Marxism. This was regarded by California State University at Long Beach as evidence of his being rehabilitated. So they made him director of their black-studies program.

Ah liberalism…don’t you love it? Torture and entice to kill…and academia merits you with a department leadership and honors your made up “holiday”.

And let’s not leave out your Christianity-bashing either:

“The Christian is our worse enemy. Quiet as it’s kept, it was a Christian who enslaved us. Quiet as it’s kept it’s a Christian who burns us. Quiet as it’s kept it’s a Christian who beats us down on the street; and quiet as it’s kept when the thing goes down it’ll be a Christian that’s shooting us down. You have to face the fact that if the Christian is doing all this there must be something wrong with Christianity.”

So I guess Karenga thinks he was just practicing Christianity when he enslaved, burned and beat Deborah Jones and Gail Davis.

Senatorial Recalls

December 26th, 2009 at 11:53 am by Preston Taylor Holmes

Realistic? Probably not. But, as Eric mentions, many of these people are up for re-election in 2010. It’s worth making a list and checking it twice now as we get ready to kick these traitors out next November.

Many of these Senators are up for re-election in 2010. I believe our time would be best spent beating them at the ballot box first. But for those who are not, or those who use their power and money to defeat the people in 2010, recall initiatives should be launched to remove them.

I would especially note the states where a simple violation of the oath to office is grounds for recall. I mean, what part of “Congress shall make no law” do they not understand. And how can one so quickly forget that his/her oath to office includes the part about “upholding the constitution” and protecting our rights?

These Senators are nothing less than traitors. There is NOTHING in the Constitution that allows them to take over this massive sector of the economy. Get involved in 2010, this is the best chance we may have ever had to get these Marxists out of office and back on the streets. Unfortunately, they’re so fat from their own corruption that they won’t be starving on the streets, but let’s at least put them on the streets and give it a shot.

Democrat Judge Lets Self-Confessed Murderering Gang Member Out For Loose Change

December 23rd, 2009 at 10:09 pm by Brian

After all, it’s not like he admitted that he belonged to the Crips and murdered somebody on a golf course because they were wearing the wrong color or anything – did he? Oh, wait:

A gang member who told police he killed a stranger to gain rank in the group is back on the streets, detectives said.

The average bond for someone charged with first-degree murder who confesses is about $125,000. If the person is a danger to the community or a flight risk, $500,000 is common.

Police said Christian Walters is both of those, but all he needed was $7,500 to get out of prison for Christmas.

Walters said he’s a member of the Crips and that when he saw Dontrell McFadden with a red bandanna in his pocket near the Nashboro Village Golf Course in October, he felt disrespected.

After a brief meeting with his friends, he returned and fatally shot McFadden, said police.

The Democrat, Judge “Three Card” Monte Watkins is offering to let (see update at bottom) a self-confessed murderer who is a flight risk back out on the street for a mere $7,500.  Did it ever occur to Your Honor that this time of year a lot of people are wearing Red and Green and given Walters’ admitted sensitivity to attire reflecting colors across a certain end of the spectrum that this might not be the right moment to expose him to such onslaughts?  It’s disrepectful!  And you know what he does when he feels disrespected.

For a flight risk, you don’t have to set bail at all. This was purely elective and more than hard to believe that it wasn’t intentional.  As WSMV correctly notes, the standard bail for first degree homicide is $100,000.00 to $500,000.00 much less $75k.

For all you Bloods and Gangster Disciples out there, now you know what color bandana at least one judge wears under his robe.

Watkins was unable to be reached Wednesday because of the holiday. Criminal court judges do not comment on their rulings under any circumstances.

Don’t worry, Judge.  Rest up them pipes.  You’ll have all the time in the world to explain at your impeachment hearing.

CONFUSING UPDATE: Channel 4 is updating the page (linked to above) to now say that Walters is still in jail but that he can still make bond and get out.  I cut-and-pasted directly above but now the page is saying otherwise.  Guess I’ll just screenshot this one from here on out.  The first sentence now reads:

A gang member who told police he killed a stranger to gain rank in the group, has not posted bond yet, detectives said.

Slight difference.  But you can bet Auntie Shirley’s Buick that Momma’s coaxing her out of the keys for a foot race to TitleMax.  Hence the popular Mother-of-the-Year refrain:  My baby ain’t never hurt nobody!

Walters, who once disappeared for 10 days and is not a Tennessee native, told detectives he was worried that he didn’t kill McFadden.

After talking to the killer’s mom, Judge Monte Watkins set bond at $75,000, meaning the family just needed $7,500 — 10 percent of bond — to set him free.

Hopefully, the homies will have trouble selling half a bird of cocaine this close to Christmas to get Walters out before he turns state’s evidence and rolls on everyone anybody with any sense in Metro Government (read:  no one) can slap some into Three Card.

Thanks, GOP

December 21st, 2009 at 12:21 pm by Preston Taylor Holmes

Maybe you’ve seen the news that McShame is lamenting the fact that the GOP can do nothing to stop the government takeover of healthcare in America, or, at least, what used to be America.

As usual for the GOP, too little, too late. The bill got over its first hurdle last night.

McShame needs to grab his walker, amble down the hall to the crapper, and lean over and look at his stupid face in the mirror and thank himself for this. Because, very simply, the GOP should bear the lion’s share of the blame for this catastrophe.

“How dare I say such a thing?” the GOP sheep will ask. It all goes back to the mid-90s.

After HillaryCare went down in flames (note that the first thing the socialists do when they gain power is go after healthcare, because it is the golden ticket when it comes to controlling the population and they know it, just ask Hitler) in 1993, the American public expressed its displeasure by kicking the socialist Dim-O-Cracks out on their asses.

It was a time of sweet, sweet gridlock and a movement towards fiscal restraint and BUDGET SURPLUSES.

Unfortunately, the new wave of “conservative, small-government” Republicans soon discovered the power of the purse and the power of their own egos. Limp-wristed and self-serving leadership from dirtbags like Trent Lott and Bill Frist resulted in a GOP majority that couldn’t pass legislation to tie its own shoes, all the while playing the same pay-to-play corruption games that has become the hallmark of governments large and small.

Then in the 2000s, this pathetic GOP leadership found the perfect country-club Republican in George Bush to continue the elitist big-spending cronyism that resulted in more and more giveaways and pandering to special interests. His tenure was complicated by the islamic terrorist attacks of 9/11, but Bush never saw a spending bill he didn’t like – especially if some of those millions were going to his beloved illegals.

To make things many times worse, you had gutless, liberal GOP Senators like McCain, Lispy Graham, Snowe, Hatch, Collins, Spectre, Alexander and others whose only goals were to be praised by the leftist media and avoid any appearance of partisanship. Cowards, liars and crooks, just like their counterparts across the aisle.

This reckless spending and spinelessness resulted in the GOP getting their asses kicked all over the playground in 2006 and 2008. And they STILL DON’T FUCKING UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENED.

Now, thanks to the worst Presidential candidacy since Bob Dole, we have a President who is nothing more than a moronic Marxist union thug from Chicago, surrounded by academics and labor racketeers who hate America and hate Capitalism. Yeah, I went there.

This administration and the other Congressional Communists – Reid, Pelosi, Durbin, Frank, Byrd, Nelson, et al – are rushing to spend as much as possible and pass as much economy crushing legislation as possible because everything they do is opposed by a majority of the American public. It’s now or never to bring down Capitalism once and for all, and they’re getting closer with each 1 am vote.

Some have gone a little further and suggested that the Obamabots are pushing towards an intentional collapse of the economy and monetary system so that the America that we grew up with will be burned down and rebuilt by these same thugs, in their utopian socialist image. When you look at what they’re spending compared to previous eras, it’s hard to argue with them.

At every turn, this administration (in conjunction with its co-conspirators in congress) has been pushing legislation that strips away your liberty and removes your freedom of choice. It’s all geared toward restricting your freedom and shutting down America’s once-great economic engine. Don’t be fooled by their love of the “environment” – the ultimate goal of these people is totalitarian control, not saving the planet from their own manufactured junk science.

Now the GOP is standing around with their finger in their collective ass wondering how they are going to stop this Marxist freight train. They have one of two choices: (1) merge with the tea-party movement and put the constitution, limited government, spending restraint and budget slashing above all else, and pledge a blood oath to REPEAL everything they can, including healthcare OR (2) relegate themselves to the dustbin of history while a new third party emerges that is focused on returning this country to its roots of self-reliance, limited government, federalism and the well-designed limitations of the Constitution.

If history is any indicator, you can go ahead and purchase your sympathy card for the GOP’s next of kin.

No Blood For Hydrocarbon Laws

December 20th, 2009 at 11:59 am by Brian

Did you hear the one about all U.S. oil companies being frozen out of the bidding on Iraqi oil reserves and them being awarded to Russia and China thus rewarding the accomplices who helped Saddam Hussein break every UN sanction placed on him while enslaving the country?

Those who claim that the U.S. invaded Iraq in 2003 to get control of the country’s giant oil reserves will be left scratching their heads by the results of last weekend’s auction of Iraqi oil contracts: Not a single U.S. company secured a deal in the auction of contracts that will shape the Iraqi oil industry for the next couple of decades. Two of the most lucrative of the multi-billion-dollar oil contracts went to two countries which bitterly opposed the U.S. invasion – Russia and China – while even Total Oil of France, which led the charge to deny international approval for the war at the U.N. Security Council in 2003, won a bigger stake than the Americans in the most recent auction.

How could this happen one might incredulously ask.  Why, why, why?  Look to the usual suspects and their actions from a year ago:

Why, after all the assistance we’ve given to Iraq over the past five years, was the first major Iraqi oil deal signed with China and not with an American or even a western company? The answer is, in part, because three Democratic senators intervened in Iraqi domestic politics earlier this year to prevent Iraq from signing short-term agreements with Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total, Chevron, and BP.

Senators Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, and Claire McCaskill wrote a letter to Secretary of State Rice asking her “to persuade the GOI [Government of Iraq] to refrain from signing contracts with multinational oil companies until a hydrocarbon law is in effect in Iraq.” The Bush administration wisely refused to do so, but the resulting media hooraw in Iraq led to the cancellation of the contracts, and helps to explain why Iraq is doing oil deals instead with China.

Their release (available along with their letter to Secretary Rice at the New York Observer quoted Senator McCaskill as follows: “‘It’s bad enough that we have no-bid contracts being awarded for work in Iraq. It’s bad enough that the big oil companies continue to receive government handouts while they post record breaking profits. But now the most profitable companies in the universe–America’s biggest oil companies–stand to reap the rewards of this no-bid contract on top of it all,’ McCaskill said. ‘It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to connect these dots–big oil is running Washington and now they’re running Baghdad. There is no reason under the sun not to halt these agreements until we get revenue sharing in place,’ McCaskill said.

Yea, those multi-national American oil companies are running Baghdad aren’t they?  China, Russia and the French are getting the run of the Iraqi roost because Democrats preferred that the oil go to the people who undermined the effort to free their people every inch of the way rather than an American company to make a profit.  Remember that when they speak of “The perfect becoming the enemy of the good.”

Especially when it’s coming from the relentless enemies of the good.

To float without electric near
Copenhage-ish screams of “Hot Earth!” on a frozen lake
The largest Nor’easter in all the years.

He gives his hat to flight attendant bitch
And asks when shall our journey take?
The only other sound’s the Captain’s switch
De-ice the wings while Fuel Man shiver shakes.

The skies foreboding, grey and bleak.
But Carbon Credits have no voice to speak,
And no frequent flier miles to keep ,
And no frequent flier miles to keep.

Is this “Presidential”?

December 18th, 2009 at 12:02 pm by Nigel

I don’t think so. I think it’s chickenshit:

“I would have less of a voice and I would have less respect if I voted for things I didn’t believe in because of pressure from the leadership,” DeFazio told The Hill in an interview.

Obama himself has taken notice.

“Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio during a closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Caucus, according to members afterward.

Yeah, I know…I live in this fantasy world where my President doesn’t “keep score” in order to get even, but rather leads with integrity, poise and character. I sense that our President thinks he’s still in junior high and that he’ll grab his buddy Rahm to jump DeFazio after school to beat him up.

The Global Warming Six Legged Monster

December 12th, 2009 at 5:22 pm by Cranky

Here’s a great read on why the Global Warming Climate Change beast will be so hard to kill.

As you can see, very little has to do with science as any endeavor would when people realize there is quite a bit of personal enrichment at stake. It’s not just the money. Power, prestige and quite possibly the hope of getting laid in some far-away international conference also motivate these types.

(1) The big money climate change scientists and their powerful institutions from governmental centers to Universities,

(2) The United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which is a Geneva-based, highly funded bureaucracy controlled by one-world government political activists,

(3) Environmentalists who seek to use threats of climate chaos to stop the use of fossil fuels and return to a simpler, more “natural”, primitive lifestyle,

(4) Government at all levels whose political leaders find dealing with global warming is their opportunity to save us all from disaster cementing their status and success,

(5) The media populated by people who love to warn us of impending disaster and give us the advice we need to cope, who believe in Al Gore and his political party and who know that “the sky is falling” is the best headline of them all,

(6) Al Gore, who uses his status as a successful former Senator and Vice President to provide a platform to promote his message of doom and gloom, a message he learned in his only college science class and must have truly believed for many years but should see now is only an empty threat.

The legs are actually very tentacle-like in that they snake their way through quite a few agendas.

Enviro-whackos used to be the Globalization whackos and the Worker’s whackos before that. Their goal has been a constant anti-Western attack against societies that permit people to pursue the dirty “P” word profit and personal prosperity.

Likewise, politicians of the UN and our own Left would love to curb quaint notions of representative Democracy and self-sufficiency as only enlightened nobles can really take care of us.

No one believes that more than the MSM, who stream constant stories of the one-legged diabetic who was turned away from medical care at Christmas because heartless Conservatives cut the program.

And finally, Al Gore. What more needs to be said about this modern-day Medicine Show?

All of this is made possible by humanity, who I’m convinced is hard wired to fear the sky falling down. We’ve been the same since the times when we sacrificed our children to satisfy some angry sky-god because some slick-tongued shaman convinced us that we were inciting his wrath.

We also have no short-term memory. Otherwise this whole affair would be laughable in light of the threats of nuclear winter, global cooling and overpopulation which by the estimates of respected scientists of the time, would have had us living 12 deep in a refrigerator box sometime around 1983.

Anyway, read the whole thing as they say.

End Cablinasian Oppression

December 12th, 2009 at 3:25 pm by Cranky

Dan Collin’s rousing call to action.

The only way we’re ever going to reduce violence directed against Cablinasians is to address the root causes, and that means we must understand Cablinasian culture from the point of view of Cablinasians. And that is why I am opening here at POWIP the first Internet Department of Cablinasian Studies. Please become part of the solution, and offer up your insights into this little understood and much abused culture.

It’s not too late to make your contribution to understanding this much maligned people-group.

Let’s face it America’s racist, hegemonic, white-privileged and heteronormative culture has conspired to keep Cablinasian’s down. That and Black “leaders” and journalists who have insisted that Tiger is black despite his protestations that he doesn’t want to be identified that way, who insist that he represent their interests though he doesn’t represent them and who condemn him for not committing adultery with African American women again, despite the fact his Black 25% isn’t attracted to them.

These Are Not The Droids You Are Looking For

December 10th, 2009 at 10:09 am by Cranky

The NYT reporter:

The president’s pique at Republicans was evident before Wednesday’s meeting, after 10 months in which they have opposed all of his major initiatives to address the problems he inherited.

Obama, the next paragraph:

“We were forced to take those steps largely without the help of an opposition party, which, unfortunately, after having presided over the decision-making that had led to the crisis, decided to hand it over to others to solve,” he said in his address.

I know, no surprise there. It IS the New York Times after all. It just makes me wonder if Jackie Calmes has all her baby teeth since she is so good at being spoon-fed.
