   I wish I could practice what I preach but at least I didn’t start it this time.

   Greetings:

   My father was what he used to call “a working stiff”. After he came to this country in 1927, he mostly drove trucks for a living; coal trucks (if any remember those), delivery trucks, cement trucks. He wasn’t a man with a handful of head pats or a mouthful of “atta-boys” but he knew how to raise men.

   Every Christmas when we sat down to dinner at his favorite sister’s, he would say this little homily. “At this time of year, it occurs to me that all these cards and decorations are like appetizers and that Santa and all these presents are like dessert. But the Birth of the Christ Child is our meat and potatoes and vegetables. Let’s all give thanks for this Meal.

   Merry Christmas to all.
